I worked at Apollo Education Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Those that remain after the massive layoffs over the past 6 years are still dedicated to educating working adults, in keeping with Dr. Sperling's original vision.

    Cons

Higher Ed is not the best place to consider employment currently. AEG, given their desperate struggle to simple stay alive, wouldn't be the best choice for employment at this time.

    Pros

Good benefits and competitive starting pay. A very thorough training for position of four weeks. I felt very well prepared for the job.

    Cons

Shift bid scheduling based on a lottery system fails to account for parental obligations. Being forced to work until 9pm when you have kids is incredibly difficult.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with the direction the company is heading. Also, be more respectful of parental obligations for shift selections.

I have been working at Apollo Education Group (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent vacation accrual and sick time. Employees can get a free education from University of Phoenix.

    Cons

Poor leadership and dysfunctional structure of COEs. Company is under contract for buyout and movement towards long tern goals is stagnant. Bonuses haven't been reached in past 2 years and compensation is minimal.

    Advice to Management

Communicate and integrate across silos of COEs. Replace current performance management systems and conduct talent assessments across functions

I worked at Apollo Education Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Apollo has many committed employees and it seems as though people have stayed there and been loyal through some very difficult times.

    Cons

Tough business. Current Administration is out to get for profit education.

I worked at Apollo Education Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

When I started out with the company the benefits and training was excellent. We were rewarded for hard work, good numbers and outstanding customer service. But the company got in trouble for unethical enrollment practices, low graduation rates and financial issues.

    Cons

The moral and positive support dropped as the company lost money each quarter. The environment became uncomfortable to work at as people never knew if they would be the next one laid off. Rewards and kudos for hard work and good numbers stopped. They got rid of most of the perks that made University of Phoenix a fun and rewarding place to work.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to bring back the fun, rewarding environment that made UOP a great place to work!

I worked at Apollo Education Group (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed working at Apollo very much. Unfortunately, it wasn't during their growth. It was during their downturn.

    Cons

Too many management changes that didn't produce positive outcome.

I have been working at Apollo Education Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company offers great benefits, provides a lot learning opportunities, and willing to give people a chance to make movement laterally or upward. The educational benefit is awesome.

    Cons

There's plenty of feelings of uncertainty going around with all of the recent and impending changes within the organization. The pay is not great. Almost all positions offered here pay substantially higher at other organizations.

    Advice to Management

Clean house as needed! There are so many people who are not adding value and don't intend to do so who suck up valuable resources. Fix what's broken and leave be what isn't.

I worked at Apollo Education Group (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits with health, dental, tuition, and flex spending. Training and development opportunities are abundant. Cross-functional teams provide a variety of career options.

    Cons

The corporate mission can get in the way of the academic mission.

I have been working at Apollo Education Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good salary and great benefits. I like my boss, my position, and the ability to telecommute.

    Cons

I think leadership, or lack there of, has slowly been driving the organization into the ground.

    Advice to Management

Don't focus on marketing and ad campaigns as much. Focus on the classroom and providing service to students. I think the university tried to grow too fast and did not have proper controls in place. We need to get back to basics and provide quality service and education.

    Pros

High caliber management and colleagues. Great culture, solid processes & standard operating procedures. Very attainable expectations, fantastic working environment.

    Cons

Not a lot of room to move up. Lots of longevity w/management. Management either stay until they retire or move on from the organization, so there is not a lot of opportunities to get promoted.
