I have been working at AppNeta full-time

    Pros

Great group of people, really interesting market, and a very strong product.

    Cons

My biggest complaint is that we've grown so quickly that the bathroom is almost always full.

    Advice to Management

Management is doing a great job and I don't have any real advice to offer them.

Great to hear that you're happy here! Growth always comes with some pains and ours has pushed our facilities to the limit in some areas. Plans in motion to address, but please keep the input coming.

I have been working at AppNeta full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A young, driven core of employees and managers make Appneta a fun place to work. The location, in Fort Point, Boston, makes for a lively atmosphere. The pace of the business is up tempo, which is exciting.

    Cons

Due to the pace at which the business and industry, there can be hectic times when deadlines loom. The business is starting to outgrow its current space.

    Advice to Management

The improved communication from management to the rest of the staff has improved the morale of the team. The search for space for us to grow is important.

Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts - much appreciated. I agree with your comment on deadlines and the frenetic pace of a software startup - it can be a lot to handle at times! Space planning and overall resources to support the team is high on the list of priorities ...

I have been working at AppNeta full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I thrive in an open atmosphere - one where I can be myself, where others can do the same and where I feel I have a good sense of what's going on and why my contribution actually matters (other than just a pay check...). I've all of that here. I've been told previously that "can't you keep your crazy opinions to yourself?" - but here, people are actually interested in my thoughts and ideas I've suggested have resulted...

    Cons

I find lots of people at roughly my same age group and experience level - or a few that are much more experienced and several years older. Kind of bi-modal in the age and experience levels and a little light on the "mid level" experience and age group. Not so much a con as much as a potential missing element that could round out the company culture a tad.

    Advice to Management

I really appreciate the willingness to advance people from within - the promotions here are exciting to see and give me hope. :) However, I sometimes wonder if we shouldn't be bringing in more experienced people to help lead and mentor the less experienced vs. promoting from within quite as much.

Great thoughts and your willingness to share is much appreciated. Your observations re: tenure and promotions aren't wrong and reflect the reality of a younger work-force. We're actively seeking the balance between bringing in more experience from the outside vs. "growing our own" ...

I have been working at AppNeta full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I saw a recent review and it prompted me to do the same. I joined in past year and have found AppNeta to be far better than I expected after looking back at earlier GlassDoor reviews. Changes across the company feel material compared to stories I'm told from the early days (haven't seen any of that behavior since I joined). I do see many people being recognized for their efforts and it seems like there are nearly as...

    Cons

Office environment is open floor plan and can sometimes be chaotic and a bit loud. I can find quiet places to work when I need to, but I wish the office layout where I sit would let me stay at my desk regardless of other team's noise. Definitely not an environment for everyone. But for me, the higher energy level is worth the minor aggravation of the periodic noise. We're growing fast and the office space is filling...

    Advice to Management

Consider the number and different types of knowledge workers you have when doing floor layouts and office assignments as there could be better ways to allocate square footage. The bi-weekly town halls and monthly company meetings are great, but I'd like to see more interaction with senior management at the team or individual level occasionally. We need to spend more $'s on marketing!

I have been working at AppNeta full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I have a super manager. He helps me understand how my projects tie back the overall product and company strategy and lets me run with my ideas. I get feedback, guidance and assistance when needed, but I don't feel like anyone is hovering (like my last employer...). The asks are big and we're asked to deliver on aggressive feature and quality targets, but I personally love the challenge. My peers push themselves as...

Wish we had more engineers! We're in a very competitive market with strong competitors and while our roadmap feels on target to me (our customers and our tech support team give engineers lots of concrete product feedback), it feels like we're not making as much progress as we could if we had a larger team (or just plain more teams!). I know we're trying to hire, but I feel we could be doing more there. Also, product...

    Advice to Management

Keep up the communication to the employees because it's great to understand how we're doing and what the plans are to do even better. It's new for me to have access to so much business related information and I like it. But also recognize that Boston is a tough market to hire in and do whatever it takes to build the dev team size because I think once people come here, they'll love the work and the team and won't want...

I have been working at AppNeta full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Without a doubt the most nimble APM tool in the market. Prospective customers that go through a qualified trial with AppNeta almost always buy. With an effort to really learn the technology, you can make a lot of $ here. TraceView(APM tool) is easier to sell every week as its fantastic reputation reaches more in the IT world. Getting paid your commissions here is more stressful than most sales org's, but if you're organized and understand your customers' payment processes there should be no major pain(great % payouts). The C-level messaging is fairly consistent, but mgmt. has struggled to support the sales & op's teams with clear goals and paths to build a strategy for long term growth. Advice to Management

Have a 2nd men's toilet installed immediately(maybe a 3rd and 4th, too). "Plumbing too difficult"?, then move. An office with more than 25 men that has only 1 toilet is not only a health code violation but an utter disregard for the well being of your employees. Leadership should be ashamed for their lack of action here.

I have been working at AppNeta full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Big picture? AppNeta is one of the few places I've worked where I've seen people promoted as fast as they're capable of, and in many cases, faster. In many cases, they rise to the challenge. This doesn't even happen in 5-person startups. The market is good, the products are good, the customer base is immense, there's real revenue, and management care about making it a good place to work. If you've followed AppNeta,...

    Cons

AppNeta is a 10-year old startup. It has pivoted several times, while remaining mostly in the same global market, which means there's a lot of baggage. Employee culture, tribal wisdom, best practices: these have been built under a bunch of different, frequently unsuccessful leaders and strategies. It's much better, but every small company has it's struggles. AppNeta doesn't have the new-company gloss, and it's still...

    Advice to Management

Don't think that changing CEOs will fix everything. It's a huge start, but the AppNeta of 5 years ago is probably the biggest competitor and threat to the AppNeta of today. Especially culturally.

    Pros

Really really easy HR process. If you need a placeholder job right out of college that will just barely allow you to survive in Boston while you find something more legit, this is the way to go as long as you don't have very high standards or self-respect. From what I remember, they were growing kinda fast? Also, the products they sell are solid.

    Cons

Where to start. 12 hour days are the standard and they pay you on average $35k/ year. If you do the math it's basically McDonalds pay. They have implemented all of the least sophisticated, high pressure, low cost, high turnover sales practices developed in the technology space. It's more or less a sweatshop full of college educated kids making 150-200 dials per day and reading from a script riddled with grammatical...

AppNeta is quickly becoming a great place to work. Like many small companies it has seen its share of bumps in the road but over the past 6 months management has made a real effort to grow a culture that employees care about the success of the company and the company cares about the success of the employees.
