I have been working at Apple full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working at Apple means that the things you work on get into the hands of hundreds of millions of people, literally. It's a lot of pressure to get things right and drives one to do the best work of their lives. 2+ years later I'm still blown away by the talent and creativity of people I work with.

    Cons

It's a lot of work, teams are usually strapped for resources and under pressure to deliver on strict timelines leading to high stress and long hours at certain times during the year.

    Advice to Management

Keep fighting for "what's right". Renewable energy, civil liberties, working condition, everything. I couldn't be prouder of that aspect of the company, in the end it's about a lot more than profits and earnings.

I have been working at Apple full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good comp, good problems, work on the best.

    Cons

    - The company grew too fast over the past 10 years. Lots of new faces brought lots of new management styles. There's high variability in your working experience between teams, departments, and divisions.
    - There are hot teams, and there are not hot teams. You'll know pretty clearly based on how many miles your desk is away from the main campus.

    Advice to Management

Increase manager & engineer training. Give engineers who have long since hit the promotion ceiling at ICT4 more opportunities for self development.

I have been working at Apple full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tons of resources, lots of really smart people. You're working on products that millions of customers will eventually have in their hands.

    Cons

Lots of type-A people you have to work with, definitely feel like a cog in the wheel. Company doesn't make you feel like you're important. Lots of corporate bureaucracy and disorganization as far as management goes - very much figure it out on your own type of attitude. Poor leadership because of lack of training and promoting people who are hard-nosed and many times lack empathy and people skills. Very little mentorship and career advancement opportunities, and poor work life balance for the most part.

    Advice to Management

Have a more open work environment where employees feel like they can share their issues and are actually being listened to as opposed to pretending like you care but then disregarding or completely ignoring issues that are right in front of your face. Treat your employees like they matter, and they will be more loyal and work harder for you. There' s a reason why there's a high turnover rate.

    Pros

Rsu refresh is good if you have a good performance. Have extra holiday during thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Different groups have diff Beni fits.

    Cons

No free lunch. Perf review only once per year in some groups. Initial PTO has only 12 days. Too few positions for new grads.

    Advice to Management

    No work during weekend.

I have been working at Apple full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Good benefits
    -Decent Salary and RSUs
    -Emphasis on good software process

    Cons

-Very top down flow of any work; no transparency; engineers do not know what and why a particular decision is made
-Unnecessary high level of secrecy blocks engineers mind in doing creative things
-Playing catch up in machine learning/AI
-Unstable in machine learning projects due to managers who do not anything about recent machine learning trends
-Culture promotes racial biases; No one questions why a particular decision of promotion or performance review was made

    Advice to Management

Please try to improve the culture and racial bias towards asian people.

I have been working at Apple full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company has excellent benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k, employee discounts, etc.) and terrific cafeterias.

    Cons

Rapid growth has resulted in a significant loss of the culture which has made Apple a great company.

    Advice to Management

Focus on attention to details, quality and long term features. Product ownership should be shared by everyone.

I have been working at Apple full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Genuinely great company and culture, good comp and bennies, generous equipment issue and refresh, RSUs and employee stock purchase plan, good employee discount for product. Excellent opportunities to move/advance internally.

    Cons

Poorly defined career path; highly competitive stack ranking; culture diluted by influx of employees from other companies (e.g., Dell, Cisco)
