I worked at Apple as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

This experience was absolutely phenomenal. I am already an established professional in electronics, but decided to change topics a few years ago, and ended up as a PhD intern at Apple along the way. So, I have a lot of context to compare this experience to.

Apple is a place where you are treated professionally, and where everyone is on the same team working towards a common goal. It was a very refreshing experience in comparison to the ego-driven world that is academia. This is not a place for someone who places a lot of value in what "their name" is attached to. I consider this a huge plus, but that's also dependent on the personality.

The perks are also second to none. I came away with a new Apple Watch, MacBook Pro and iPhone, and received significant discounts on each. I took advantage of the free rides to San Francisco after work on the Apple coach as well. My rent was completely paid in a luxury apartment near to the campus. I had opportunities to work overtime whenever I wanted and was compensated for it.

Finally, I was given a license to essentially work on exactly the topic I think about all the time. This is where Apple really excels. I was extremely impressed by the degree to which they considered my interests in developing the project and overall experience.

    Cons

The on-boarding process was a little bit rough. I think I could've accomplished a little bit more if the big picture goal was more clear from the beginning.

    Advice to Management

Try to present projects to incoming employees in the same way you expect them to present their updates. Polished and clearly communicated. The two-way approach would make things a bit more efficient. Great job overall, though. Apple beat the pants off of the other electronics companies I've worked for as an overall experience.

I worked at Apple as an intern

    Pros

Excellent facilities, virtually unlimited resources. Can be a bit daunting for someone just starting their career

    Cons

Secrecy, but I guess it cannot be avoided. Very high expectations, work life balance can take a hit

I worked at Apple as an intern

    Pros

Was the perfect balance between design, testing, and hands on work. Because I constantly had 3 to 4 projects on my plate I could switch between them whenever I wanted to take a break without losing time. Most projects are fun, and all of them are a learning experience. Also, everyone around me was pleasant to work with and more than a few mentored quite well.

    Cons

I do not feel that there were any cons to my experience. Sometimes one of the printers wouldn't work.

    Advice to Management

At least in Mac PD, they should keep doing what they're doing because the mentorship structure worked well.

I worked at Apple as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I loved everything about my experience there! I was able to do valuable work and meet a lot of intelligent and interesting interns as well as full time employees.

The IS&T internship is a great one, and is especially valuable because it is the only way to get into the ITDP program. This is a 2 year rotational program within IS&T that offers a lot of opportunity for working with different people and picking up new skills.

Overall, I love my internship here.

    Cons

The only downside was that I did not get work in or tour the spaceship.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing a great job with the intern and ITDP programs! I loved my time there as an intern.
