I have been working at AppleTree Early Learning Public Charter School full-time

    Pros

If you love working with young kids and in a team environment, this is a good fit. There are lots of opportunities for growth - I've seen people move to different positions throughout the organization.

    Cons

It's only preschool and Pre-k, so if you were hoping for older kids, this isn't it.

I have been working at AppleTree Early Learning Public Charter School full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are so many opportunities to advance your career at AppleTree. I have grown professionally under the leadership of an AMAZING principal, my long-term goals are becoming short-term. AppleTree also offers a HUGE amount of support for the students, their families, and teachers.

    Cons

As with any job in education, the pay is not the greatest, however, there are annual increases and opportunities to earn more. A number of parents share that they wish AppleTree would expand their schools to teach grades higher than pre-k.

I have been working at AppleTree Early Learning Public Charter School full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The curriculum is very fun but rigorous and does a great job preparing our pre-k scholars for kindergarten. There is a lot of opportunity for growth within the staff. There is a lot of support from the instructional teams.

I love the at-school model campuses (AppleTree campus within another school) because the scholars are exposed to the elementary school atmosphere early so that Kindergarten is not a big culture shock.

    Cons

Working to have a more cohesive relationship between partner school and AppleTree staff.

A salary increase to be more competitive with other charter schools in DC.

    Advice to Management

Include classroom teachers a little more in decisions

Give teachers more choice of campus selections to help with turnover rate

    Pros

If you are the following, you will fit in:
~step on people, their dreams, and their hard work
~spread lies and encourage others to believe in the lies
~ruin careers and write people up for breathing
~backstabber and enjoy making people feel horrible
~a know-it-all and wants to pump their chest to make others feel worse
    ~not qualified

    Cons

If you are a genuine person, they will try to make you feel like you are the problem and that they will get rid of you.

    Advice to Management

    Purge!!!!!!!!

I worked at AppleTree Early Learning Public Charter School full-time

    Pros

Opportunities for growth within the organization. People start out as fellows and can grow into upper leadership.

They are able to pay for some of your education if you qualify.

Their fellowship programs gives you a Master of Education from Relay Graduate School; however, this is not a certified institution throughout the US.

    Cons

Teachers have no voice, decisions affecting classrooms come from upper leadership, they are told decisions. This leads to high turn over rates.

They move teachers across grade levels and campuses without asking them, teachers find out their assignments too late into the hiring season and feel trapped.

    Advice to Management

Create a teacher committee to ensure teacher's voice is respected and heard in your organization. Even when making tough decisions, you can still be collaborative.

There is a feeling that your teaching staff is "disposable," this goes against research based best practices for students.
