I worked at Applied Industrial Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some large company Benefits through small branches

    Cons

Frivolous law suits by upper management when employees leave. Human resources does not help with complaints. Things are swept under the rug. They are duplicating their efforts on sales with subsidiaries completing with the same products. The subsidiaries make a better margin because AIT is not a technical company they are now like a catalog house.

    Advice to Management

Wake up! Ask the little people what is really going on.

"For Outside Sales/Account Managers, a Micromanaging Nightmare"

    Pros

The inside sales staff, especially the former Detroit Ball Bearing people in Detroit, are nothing short of awesome. Great "got your back" type of people, great support. Benefits with Applied are very good.

    Cons

It started with great promise, then turned into nothing but a paycheck. When an inside sales person, with two decades of experience, says that they would NEVER take an account manager (outside sales) with these guys, that should tell you all...

Fundamentally dishonest company, advertising the outside sales/account manager position as salary plus bonus opportunity, when in reality,it's draw against commission, the Detroit/Michigan managers do not tell you that until you're months into the job, and it would take tripling the sales of your territory to just break even on the salary/draw. Compensation - advertised one way, reality a whole other, unattainable mater.

    Massive amounts of micromanaging everyone.

Outside sales/account managers should plan on having at least half of their time set for them, making "joint" sales calls with any one of at least ten vendor sales people.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of abusive general and service center managers. Management by intimidation is counterproductive. Stop micromanaging your sales people.

    Pros

I'm at a loss to think of one reason to work for this company ? Other than you need a pay check for now. But, plan on leaving as soon as you arrive. And I mean plan, play chess. Take the job and search for the next one on your way in the door.

    Cons

As a sales pro, working for Applied Industrial technologies is the most depressing experience I can think of. If you want to maintain a positive focus on success avoid this company. This was the saddest work environment I have ever been exposed to. Beyond words.

    Advice to Management

This is the question in a vacum ? What management ? The implied and or apparent involvement of skilled, informed, forward think leadership is utterly devoid at this company. This is truly a rudderless ship heading for corporate abyss.

I have been working at Applied Industrial Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great customers. Good benefits. Very good products.

    Cons

Very poor training for new account managers, very lazy disfunctional attitude throughout entire company. No accountability for cssr's, gm's & even rm's. Every branch seems to have it's own business model & the roleout of SAP has been a disaster in every way. There is no way to track sales, quotes & orders take 2 to 3 times longer than before, misships, wrong quantities, etc.

    Advice to Management

Pay your people more. Competitor's pay much better & a lot of employees are leaving-just take a look at all of the job openings.

    Pros

Benefits package i.e. health insurance, retirement was good. Company vehicle for Account Managers, company credit card for AM's

    Cons

Micromanaging nightmare. Tons of paperwork for sales when selling not office work should be the focus.

    Advice to Management

If you can't trust your sellers to sell then you're GMs and RMs aren't doing their jobs to facilitate the field personnel or they aren't good evaluators of talent. Seems that the culture is that all sales people are lazy and unless micromanaged they aren't capable of tying their own shoes. Please drop the sales funnel if you already haven't. Good salespeople know how to qualify and work through a sale or opportunity.

I worked at Applied Industrial Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very little to no positives, this company is on a fast track to disaster

    Cons

Falsities about pay, territory and reporting. Lies all the way around. Terrible management and awful customer service. Screwed up every commission payout and then the excuse of "its just the way the system works" Arrogant, intimidating, lying, poor management. Favoritism, unethical business practices, and negativity. Truly a horrible work environment. Regional management is milk toast, spineless and has no management skills, local management rules by intimidation and lies, Unfortunate for such a large company.

    Advice to Management

Quit promoting based on tenure. Most of the management I saw couldn't manage themselves. Take a look at how the local branches operate and how they treat people. Its truly awful. I would never recommend Applied for any type of business, very negative and poorly performing company.

    Pros

You have a job. Although, it will look horrible on your resume.

    Cons

Flat organizational structure keeps you in your place. Annual raises capped at 3 percent per year. High turnover and they drag their feet to replace them, sticking you with a ton of work to cover for it. Seriously, it takes a minimum of six months to replace someone. If you do get suckered into a management position, prepare to have no decision making ability. Also, you will spend most of your time filling out spreadsheets to give something to upper management to talk about. You will be overworked and under paid for your entire career, unless you are the most skilled tail sucker. If you are salary, you are looked down upon unless you work insane hours. There are tiny bonuses. Year end bonuses are put so far out there that you will never obtain them. My branch only reached it once in fifteen years. If they ask you to take a position, do not take it with the promise of better compensation later. GET IT IN WRITING or it will never happen. That and "applied hires you and someone else pays you" are mantras that every employee knows. I was there a very long time. You can believe every word that I write. Run from this company and do not look back. Lies, lies, lies and more lies. If you enjoy this crap, never mention the lies...You will start to mysteriously be written up for random things and ushered out the door. Good luck!

    Advice to Management

    Stop worshiping Satan.

    Pros

    It's a job and I get a base salary

    Cons

Pay has been messed up since started SAP. We are talking a few years now. Every time it is brought to managements attention they "fix" it but will not pay me the back pay! Customer service at the beach sucks. Branch manager is working for a total of 5hrs a week for the most part. Sales are constantly lost due to inside people messing it up or not doing it at all. I would have left already but I signed a non-compete contract... Don't do that if you go work for them btw

    Advice to Management

Stop wanting sales managers to sit at the office making spead sheets and filling out useless info! Let us make sales calls.

I have been working at Applied Industrial Technologies (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a company who has fallen in love with metrics at the expense of sales professionals who actually pay the bills. It's over managed and under supervised.

    Cons

If you come to work here get ready to get the least amount of face to face time with your customers that you can imagine. Managers sit back and wring their hands over numbers. That's their function to relay a never ending stream of meaningless computer data to you and constantly push to meet the goals Cleveland set with absolutely no input from the field. The MSS division is losing reps and managers at an astounding rate.
You will get a lot of complaints about poor service, inflated freight charges, and lack of inventory.

    Advice to Management

Get a real job. Quit calling the sales staff at night and on weekends for information for more idiotic reports
