I have been working at Applied Medical full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

A great company that provides a unique culture, growth, and stability. Going above and beyond here will take your far in your growth with Applied. Many complain, but don’t expect exponential growth if you are only committed to completing the bare minimum of your assigned responsibilities. If you put in a strong effort to make a positive difference that helps Applied achieve it’s goals, they will recognize you for it....

    Cons

Some people are in Leadership roles who have no business being there. South OC cost of living is expensive and does not always match the rate of pay. This causes many of us to have to commute long distances.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in training, particularly at all levels of management. Some of the longer tenured management need to get away from their old school ways of managing people. You are heading in the right direction.

I have been working at Applied Medical full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This is a good company to start with if you are a new engineer. After a few years of experience, find another company.

    Cons

Where do I start? Company run by Said Hilal and his relatives. Upper management business philosophy and culture sounds good but doesn't reflect mid-level management practices. Extremely high turn-over rate - new engineers thrown into projects with little or no experience of engineering principles and practices. Company has managed to escape the scrutiny of the FDA for years until now. The upcoming storm from the...

    Advice to Management

Change your cultural business philosophy or a least acknowledge that it isn't working - may have been fine when company was small but times have changed. Stop trying to force employees to drink your cultural leadership training kool-aid.

I have been working at Applied Medical full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great place to gain experience in the manufacture of medical devices (please don't call them widgets - you'll get a frowny face from Said)

    Cons

Ridiculous expectations for project completions - massive amounts of paperwork. Some products released on market too soon or designed by young inexperienced engineers. Wasted time trying "fix" products that were not engineered correctly to begin with. Too much "pencil whipping" justifications for product that obviously has issues.

    Advice to Management

Stop touting the mantra of "Doing the Right Thing" unless you yourself are doing the right thing! Stop pretending that you hire interns every summer so you can enrich young aspiring engineers and help them with their careers when your true goal is to recruit future engineers and pay them ridiculously low wages. Stop lying to yourself about why you are in business - it is not to sell affordable medical devices and lower...
