I have been working at Applied Medical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff is pretty welcoming and generally a great bunch of people. Plenty of gathering activities and company sport teams that let you get to know other employees from other departments that you would have never met before. you really get to choose to be a leader or a follower here.

    Cons

Great place to start out of college, but pay really lacks after about a year. Turn over rate tends to be high from all the entry level workers looking for better pay.

    Pros

Applied Medical is an excellent organization no matter what level you come in at. You will be allowed and encouraged to learn and grow. If you decide this is a short term opportunity, it is. If you decide it is a long term opportunity, it is While there are people there that are part of the same family, if you look closely and without bias, you'll find that they are top notch individuals and would be successful at any company.

    Cons

If you want the big money fast, this is not the company for you. But then, are there a lot of "big money fast" companies around? Not really. If they tell you they are, look closely and tread cautiously. And to be specific, there are many, many people at Applied that are not part of the family that people accuse of nepotism that have been there a long, long time, that have positions with much responsibility. The reality is that at Applied, it really doesn't matter what your last name is. You are responsible for your own success.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you've been doing for the last 28 years. Success speaks for itself.

    Pros

There are some really great people in this organization. Sadly, the best are ignored and leave. Intern program is very good... Great for new graduates getting ground level experience with the understanding it is a short term job... but don't plan on a long career here.

    Cons

Personnel development is superficial at best... talking the talk but not walking the walk. They are managed, without true Leadership. People are a cheap commodity here. Don't be fooled by what Management says... always watch and see what Management DOES!

    Advice to Management

Understand it is the people who make or break a company. Communication is key... and that MUST be two way. Remember, how you treat people will be reflected in their work and actions. Having different classes of team members is detrimental.

    Pros

Great people. Great design opportunities. Level playing field. Access to new technologies. You'll be allowed to take on challenges that require more experience than you currently have

    Cons

Compensation compared to cost of South Orange county living is a problem. High turn over is mostly due to this reason in my opinion. Rigid schedule of 8 to 5 (minimum) 1 hour lunch. 2 hour doctors appointments get taken out of sick time.

    Advice to Management

Keep most of the great work! But, if you expect your talented workers to stick with Applied for the long run, don't make it a poor financial decision to do so. People have personal and family goals, accomplishing them while reaping the experience benefits of Applied Medical can be a challenge for the average employee with common life expences.

I worked at Applied Medical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large company with room to grow
Offer benefits & 401k package that outshines other companies
    Company holiday parties, events
    Avdrag work load

    Cons

Don't show weakness and let yourself get pushed over....will result in you getting unfair treatment from other employees
    Micromanagement and favoritism
Feels like management ignores conflicts among employees rather than solve them

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring people who speak zero English or those who can't do their job properly

I worked at Applied Medical full-time

    Pros

Nice people. Good medical benefits. I enjoyed the people I worked with and the work environment was good. Friendly employees.

    Cons

The company will not pay you any more than your previous job. My advice is don't let them know how much you currently make. It is none of their business. Supervisors have no ability to actually help the employees. No many opportunities to grow within the company. Very oppressive upper management.

    Advice to Management

Remove the oppressive vice presidents. Bring in management that actually care about the growth of employees. Empower supervisors to be able to help the employees grow within the company.

I worked at Applied Medical (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Friendly employees, good culture, good benefits.

    Cons

Management does not listen to employees. Too much nepotism in the company. Basically run by Hilal family. Family and friends of family move up the ladder quickly while great employees are left in the dust. If complaints continue to be ignored and practical changes are not implemented soon, the company unfortunately will continue to decline irreparably further. No new product offerings, R&D in a rut. Benefits are inferior to other companies in the same industry.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Need to invest more on R&D for new products and technology. Be realistic and cut your losses now on new products that are not feasible. Stop investing on impractical infrastructures. Focus direction on what worked before and stop moving to untested grounds. Hire and retain competent and knowledgeable employees.

    Pros

    Cons

    Hold employees to standards

I worked at Applied Medical full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Access to a lot of different resources, machine shop, work lab, etc. Great learning environment for a young engineer in product engineering of any industry.

    Cons

Overly corporate culture, lack of incentives to progress forward at company. Many employees openly discuss the political aspect of the company, somewhat unnerving as an employee to hear.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees more closely, provide great incentives for advancement. The product line is great but the people who make/design the product need a greater voice.
