I worked at Applied Medical full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Vertically Integrated so you can learn everything from component to product manufacturing, full ownership of projects, engineers are young so it's easy to make friends at work, exposure with every single department, causal dress code, good work life balance (if you're not a manager), and RSM is a really nice area to work in.

    Cons

Low pay, terrible 401K, and middle management doesn't have a lot of support so you can either get a great manager or a manager who was forced to take on a team .

    Advice to Management

Applied Medical is a great company to work for as a new grad since you work on every single aspect of a project and you can gain exposure into the medical device industry. However, the pay is low (engineer I start off around 60-65k) compared to industry standards and the 401k is a joke (50% match up to 2% of your salary). There's no training for managers so some focus on career development and others are barely around....

I worked at Applied Medical full-time

    Pros

Easy to get lots of exposure to multiple facets of the medical device industry.

    Cons

It’s a stepping stone company. Low pay and constantly shuffling employees around to different rolls leads to instability and lack of in-depth knowledge. You have to drink the kool-aid..... It’s really no different than any other medical device company when you strip it down.

    Advice to Management

Don’t change the teams every several months, build teams for the long haul.

I have been working at Applied Medical full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Engineers are all fairly young (recently graduated), lots of manufacturing areas to get experience in.

    Cons

Young and inexperienced management, low pay, poor benefits, company not loyal to employees (cancelled christmas party, unexplained lack of company updates, employees treated as canon fodder)

    Advice to Management

Treat salaried workers as salaried workers. Schedule flexibility is non-existent.

I have been working at Applied Medical full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Not micromanaged. Recruit great people. Not a churn and burn environment. Great for entry level med device reps or experienced reps looking to slow down.

    Cons

Low pay, NO development, very limited access to information, no defined advancement track, expected to just figure it out. You receive comp plans for new year or new roles halfway thru your 1st Quarter in a position. Stay out of your managers hair and you won't be bothered as long as you can portray you know what you're doing.

    Advice to Management

Don't think it matters to share thoughts.

I worked at Applied Medical full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My review applies to engineering departments. - Pretty laid back -Most people and colleagues are very nice -Good learning opportunities if you are out of college and don't have any experience -Job security. You don't get fired unless you really mess up -Nice and clean buildings/facilities -Willingness to invest on R&D projects, vertical integration -Location -Espresso machines everywhere -OK medical-dental-life

    Cons

-If you are an experienced or highly technical engineer, avoid this company. The company policy is to hire fresh graduates who can't find any other job, pay them very low, and don't care if they leave. -Managers are highly incompetent and most of them are there due to nepotism or being with the company for a long time. Some engineering managers even don't have a college degree! It is a private company and managers are...

    Advice to Management

I believe Applied's president Mr. Hilal is a very nice person. However, his vision for the company and his motivational speeches about employees are somehow shallow. My advice is: Hire and promote talented and hardworking people and try to keep them.

I worked at Applied Medical full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Company policy is admirable. Innovation to bring better healthcare at a reasonable price point.

      Cons

Very political. If you are not part of the family or the "in" crowd you will not advance. Hard work and going above and beyond is not recognized or appreciated. Employees are scapegoats for mistakes made by management. Very low pay.

      Advice to Management

Recognize and compensate valuable employees fairly. Politics and nepotism is rampant.

      Negative Outlook

I worked at Applied Medical full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Internship, a good place to sleep over the weekdays.

      Cons

Family run business of company size 2400 employees. Easy company, easy job for lazy office workers, a good place to sleep over during the weekdays. A place like Starbucks coffee shop to enjoy fantastic coffee and chat. Of course, LOW PAY for LOW COST PRODUCT. Cheating process, and bad quality products. But your boss said so, then you have to let it go.

      Advice to Management

Fired your family members, and open to market. Hire more talent workers and keep them. Fired lazy bosses instead of let them fire these talent workers.
