Great people to work with, very dedicated and hard working. Its very rewarding to work with agencies. Applied is trying to get better all the time. Management is trying to be responsive and change/grow. I appreciate that some departments, like implementation, are managed by people that have been implementation leads. Its a great place to learn a lot and start/grow your career.
Cons
Education Services is oppressive and does not treat employees well. When hired I was told travel was 50%, it was easily at 80% and it was not uncommon to travel 10-12 weeks straight. Non-travel weeks are considered optional and get taken away without regard. Pay is horrible, raises are non-existent and any move between departments will be labeled lateral and without a pay raise. Absolutely no work/life balance. Limited career opportunities. Departments can have out of touch management that have no idea what actually happens. Departments are siloed and communication is limited.

Close to home Flexible hours Good people
Cons
Pay is low and not close to being competitive. I've been at Applied for 9 years, yet I feel there is no room for advancement. I've asked about advancement opportunities in my 'self-eval' several years in a row and it is never discussed. Feel very stuck and at a dead end. If you want to keep good employees give them reasons to stay.

Support Technician Level 2.
Jun 10, 2016 - Support Technician Level II in University Park, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Friendly people, good commute. Good at recognizing birthdays and anniversaries. CEO is a good guy-always keeps us updated on the company. Good entry level job.
Cons
Micromanaged(feel like I'm 10 years old sometimes), low pay. (Really low pay) Customer Support has the lowest pay in the company for some reason. The training isn't great- you learn on the fly..but it's painful at first for you and the customer till you know what you're doing. It's possible to advance..but hard. Turnover rate is high in customer support. Management can be really passive-aggressive.

No place for advancement
Jun 16, 2016 - Senior Support Technician in University Park, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
My coworkers for the most part are nice. My current supervisor does not micromanage but most do there. You get your birthday off now paid.
Cons
After working there for over 10 years I have learned that I am stuck. I am extremely good at what I do so they will not let me move to a different department or advance me any further where I am at. I am expected to do more work than others and paid pathetically for it. I started at a low wage to begin with. Way lower than other companies I came to find. And lower than others that started around the same time. And over the years they have hired new technicians who get paid more than I did when I started and know a lot less. Raises are sad. Barely COLA. And they are not keeping up with industry standards. If you work hard you would think your raise would reflect it. They do not here. In fact the person who does little to no work will get almost the same raise as you. Turnover in technical support is high. Really really high! Most people do not last past the year mark. I think because training is a joke and they throw you into it. The stress level is high and they seem to pile on more work...for the same pay. There are several supervisors that micromanage. And there are managers that do the same thing. And it really does not matter how well you do your job if they do not like you the chances of you going anywhere is nil.

Look at all the people leaving instead of a couple good reviews
Aug 18, 2015 - Support Technician in University Park, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I have to write 20 words but there is no Pros to working here unless you know someone or have an in with someone in management.
Cons
Where to start? People are actively leaving the company because it really isn't a great company. The CEO told us to write a review because its clear only bad reviews were on here to try to up the reputation. They are only concerned about how they look but not what they do. Management has lost track of how to even perform a daily job, unless sitting there staring at a computer screen telling people to be on the phones is an actual job. No compensation for doing great work unless you are in sales so there isn't a point to even try to better your career. Management picks out favorites and doesn't promote people who actually put in the time and effort to deserve it. If you do one thing wrong you better believe that your life at Applied will forever be dictated on it instead of the thousands of good things you do great. You will get paid significantly less than anyone else in the same position at any other company. You will also make less than the new person just starting in your same current position because pay increases are horrible.

Pros
Never a lack of work - stimulating environment with lots of changes. Keeps things interesting. CEO has great vision and excellent ability to articulate that to employees. He's more connected to the business than any other CEO i've worked for.
Cons
Terrible pay and absolutely no checks and balances between what executives are doing and what is 'right' to do per HR/Corporate standards. Management will give you more work if you do your work well but never a pay raise. In fact, this company is known to give 'title changes' without any money to go with it - they will just roll a pay increase into your cost of living increase instead (a raise you would have received anyways). Huge lack of feedback on performance and encouragement on a job well done. The management seems to do what they want in regards to compensation. There isn't a lot of opportunity for growth and no rhyme or reason to compensation based on education and experience. Very disheartening! Also, managers really do no manage anything. This company is still highly micromanaged by executives, especially when it comes to budget. They have high expectations about what they want you to accomplish but don't give you the resources to be able to manage those results.

Thank you for your feedback and your continued efforts to make Applied a world class organization. Applied puts forth significant effort into creating an environment which provides equal opportunity to all members of Team Applied, including rewarding performance under our compensation programs regardless of team member gender or other demographic considerations. In addition, as the business continues to grow we are increasing the level of accountability our leaders have, along with expanded authority, to manage their respective parts of the organization. We encourage any employee who feels there is an issue in these areas to reach out to their management, or alternatively to our HR organization. As always, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns you have directly and encourage you to reach out to me to discuss further.

Good place to break into tech, then leave
Apr 2, 2022 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Remote available Full benefits on day 1 Can be flexible with your schedule No minimum requirements for support so it’s a great stepping stone job to gain basic tech skills
Cons
There is no focus on retention of existing employees. Raises are small and yearly. Promotions are not merit based, they just happen if you’ve been there long enough and come with the same yearly raise everyone else gets. Old and aging products / tech debt. Stress from job is way too high for way too little pay and it’s easy to burn out.

Mediocre environment, poor manager involvement, no interest in quality.
Mar 25, 2015 - Testing Analyst in University Park, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good work to life, overtime is rare. Low stress
Cons
No interest in quality. Development runs QA. Low wages: most other companies within half an hour offer twenty to thirty percent higher pay Middle management does little to promote any change or improvement. Medical/Dental benefits get worse every year with very little information as to what is actually changing. Almost no advancement opportunity for quality assurance. Management only wants to hear good news.

Great department, managers, co-workers
Apr 11, 2017 - Senior Account ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Before I get started, depending on which office or department you are in, your results may vary by night and day. That being said, the office I'm in currently is fantastic. Where other departments touch base with their employees maybe once every 3-5 months and reviews are a surprised slap in the face, I now get updates for the entire office once a month and from my manager, weekly. I can reach out to anyone, even my managers manager, and no one blinks an eye. Need something to do your job better? No problem, just ask for it, and you'll very likely get it. I had freedom to pick my own hours, and can schedule my own day. I also had a clear outline of my current progress, and timelines of what I would be expected to do, and by when. I've attended multiple classes, during work hours, which then led to certifications in various areas. Ideas are accepted and actually encouraged. Reviewing a procedure and see a better way to do it? Let your manager know, it will get fixed. Most importantly, if you reach out to a manager, they will own the issue and at a minimum, point you to the person you need. I've been in this position a relatively short time, but I'm very happy. The company in general seems to be working hard to make it a good place to be, with true results happening. I can't say a whole lot about our CEO at this time, but I will say he is far and away more professional and polished than our last one.
Cons
Holiday bonuses were removed many years ago and never returned. $25 dollar movie gift cards were given the last 2 years which is absurd considering the scope of the company. Rules and perks vary wildly depending on your office, or even your department. This accounts for the disparity in reviews. At least one office is in a rather undesirable location and requiring most employees to spend a lot of time driving. They are then told the location is the reason for less pay on average than more upscale zones. I've used benefits through a spouse for years since they were better than this company.
