    I worked at Appriss full-time

    Pros

Hardly have to work hard at all.
    Fridays are basically a holiday.
Rowe environment that lets you take advantage of management.
    Software company thats actually local.

    Cons

Management is absent at best, waiting for the next event to get rich.
    Turnover is massive.
Tends to put people in jobs where they have no background or skills.
    Very little direction.
    Salary isn't competitive.

    Advice to Management

Focus on your people. Turnover has caused a massive rift in what's actually getting done. Completely top heavy in the business, and the gap between the stories that are told and the reality of where the company stands is absurd.

    Pros

amazing company values, wonderful work environment with no judgement. The managers and upper management work with lower level employees to address concerns

    Cons

Benefits are decent but a little expensive if you smoke (health insurance), advancement seems to be a little based in office politics rather than merit.

    Pros

The work is rewarding, you are helping to make your community a better place by servicing the different products this company has. Work life balance is good. the health insurance is amazing.

    Cons

poor mid management. you look at the people as "supervisor" or "manager" and think how in the world did they get here. the PTO time you earn per pay period is a joke. the pay is a little low for the market.

    Advice to Management

clean house with leadership. pay more. have a better paid time off system. take some responsibility for your self.

I have been working at Appriss full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule. Good pay. Smart coworkers. Management that looks out for you, and let's you get your work done. Forward-looking leadership, exploring new markets and products through innovation and acquisition. Good remote worker support. Good cultural climate

    Cons

Some of the existing software has some technical debt. Aggressive product development schedules don't allocate enough time for upgrading/rewriting older systems.

    Advice to Management

Tend to the older software while it is still manageable.

I have been working at Appriss full-time

    Pros

Great environment, great people, great services.

    Cons

If you work directly with senior team or their assistants, don't make one mistake. You will be immortalized for it, even if you had a stellar record prior and an even better standing after.

    Advice to Management

I can't give advice to management that hasn't given to other divisions of management in other places of businesses and beyond. Take care of your people, and your people will take care of you.

    Pros

Everything I would have put here they did away with

    Cons

Main head of the company left along with a couple others, being bought out by a new board. Long story short the board starting selling off what they could to other companies and slashed spending everywhere they could. Good health insurance...gone....office holiday parties...gone.....quarterly incentives for perfomance...paid out less one quarter promising the 2nd quarter would be double...then during second quarter giving NO quarterly incentives to anybody.

If you are in one of their offices outside of Louisville be prepared to be treated like garbage, you literally don't exist to them and they couldn't care less about you

    Advice to Management

Sell the rest of your company off to others that will run it better.

    Pros

Appriss has a great mission: Keeping communities safe and informed. Many of the employees at Appriss stay because the mission gives them purpose. The medical benefits are pretty great in comparison to other companies, and the on-site clinic is a great benefit.

When I joined Appriss, I was overjoyed and felt like I was so lucky to be part of this organization. It seemed to cross off every item that I was looking for in an employer.

Mission I can get behind? Check
    Great benefits? Check
    Flexibility? Check
    Culture? Check
    Career Advancement? Seems plausible!

Then you get there, and quickly you realize that those are all just words on a website designed to entice you to join the company. I'm sure a couple of years ago, all those words were (maybe...) true and that the leadership cared about its employees, however greed & ambition has taken the focus away from both the mission & its employees. Many employees now are left with a memory of what a great place Appriss once was to work for, only to hope it will make a miraculous come back before they move on to better pastures.

I'll walk through how most of the "positives" you'll hear about in the recruitment process are really just smoke & mirrors in the cons section.

    Cons

ROWE: Instead of unlimited vacation & total flexibility, you should look at this as no vacation. You will be on the clock, no matter what. If the workload requires it, you could be asked to work any number of hours, any time of day - with no care to how it affects your "work/life balance" - if the business desires that you work the hours of 3, then you'll be held to that performance standard. If at the end of the day your performance is unsatisfactory, or you can not meet the demands of more than one (or two) full time jobs - you will be fired. Or you can leave, but don't expect a vacation payout for any unused time (because you will surely take less than the average 10-15 days per year, if you take any at all) - there is none.

You'll hear about how as a company they drive certain behaviors - from integrity, accountability, respect & excellence. I experienced the opposite in my time there. Most notably, respect. It was not uncommon to hear HR (of all departments!!) gossiping about employees in hallways and sharing confidential information as if it was the latest water-cooler talk without any regard to their surroundings. It sends a strong message to employees to hear those conversations footsteps away from the reception desk & Cafe where there is lots of foot traffic.

The website mentions things like impromptu putt-putt in hallways, inflatable giraffes in marketing, decorating your office like a bat cave. Where? People come in, don't talk to each other unless forced, then leave. Sure, we have an occasional lunch or food truck day - but other than that its pretty bleak.

Career advancement - be prepared to get thrown around a lot. It's not uncommon to be hired in under one job, only to haphazardly be moved to another division or role altogether left to figure it out on the fly. Leadership makes decisions without thinking through the consequences and hoops its employees have to jump through to make it happen. To some that may look like career advancement, to others perhaps the direction they throw you into isn't where you want your career to go in. It wont matter, you have no say. In other companies you'd have to apply for those positions and interview - and have a chance to say "No" if it didn't seem like the right fit for you, here they'll just put your name in that role on a sheet of paper during one of their yearly company-wide reorganizations and tell you a few days before. If you don't do well in chaos, you wont like it here.

    Advice to Management

Decide what kind of company you really want to be, and stick to it. If you want to be corporate, be corporate - but don't lie during your recruitment process & online about being different than that. Those of us who value working for a company that actually practices work/life balance, respect, accountability and culture do not appreciate being lied to.
