I have been working at Appvion full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay and ability to earn with OT were substantial, $24 hr after 4 years as a basic production worker.

    Cons

It is what it is, the same everywhere you go for production work, long hours, nights, weekends, bumped out of your job whenever they have lower production needs, etc.

    Advice to Management

This company was apparently mismanaged for decades, through either incompetence, corruption/greed, or all the above-which is why they are now bankrupt. Each new management team inherits an increasingly screwed up situation, in a dying industry. Middle managers called operations support have high turnover, once they get in they see how screwed up this company is, they leave after a few months. I can't give any advice, because that assumes management actually cares. I think it was an on purpose ransacking over the years of a once profitable company-nobody really knows what goes on behind closed doors.

I have been working at Appvion full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people on floor but may be too late to save the company has announced Chapter 11.

    Cons

Management is horrindous , HR is a all girls club. . Rest of management has limited exposure to other businesses and operations which has led to this company becoming extinct.

    Advice to Management

Get new people not from this industry that can run a business successfully. They are dinasours, most Sr. Mgmt has taken all the stock and ran.

    I worked at Appvion full-time

    Pros

There are good people that work here but are becoming less and less. Hourly work force is very dedicated and good to work with.

    Cons

Middle Management is horrible. HR for plant is really bad and out to get everyone. they expect everyone to do their jobs. If you are not a yes person and actually care about the organization making improvements and care about the people you will not last long!

    Advice to Management

Get rid of current Middle Management they are destroying the company and moral.

I have been working at Appvion full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, care about employee development, work/life balance is very favorable, laid-back environment and casual interactions with senior leadership are frequent.

    Cons

Policy heavy HR that doesn't focus on talent recruitment, functional areas are somewhat their own silos, very mature commodity industry that demands constant price concessions and cost-out work, the company is highly leveraged and cannot invest in new assets or make acquisitions.

    Advice to Management

Just try to keep the ship afloat for as long as possible and manage the debt structure. Trust the marketing and R&D and finance teams to manage versus HR policies.

    I worked at Appvion full-time

    Pros

Some hard working and smart employees still there, flexible work hours, fair wages and benefits, fabulous wellness programs

    Cons

The Company just can't make money despite all the good, hard working and smart people it employs. This in turn has lead to the departure of high performing employees, some position eliminations, difficulty attracting good people to replace those leaving, lack of job security, biding time until retirement, cost cutting, falling share price, labs falling apart, poor safety, etc. Read the 10k. Its public and can be found on the Appvion website. So sad. The Company is spiraling downward.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to engage. Ship won't turn itself. People are already working hard. Time for management to take action and think about the market and its products differently.
