I worked at Apria Healthcare for more than a year

    Pros

Decent pay, out on your own calling on accounts all day! Manage your own territory and time

    Cons

Behind the 8 ball on payors, set quota very high! Can’t compete with local competition.

    Advice to Management

Make your branches as local as possible. Everything is all about local now. Strip that call center and put inside personal back in the branch. Nobody wants to talk to someone in India about there O2. Needs to be as local as possible to retain the patients you have and to grow your book of business.

I have been working at Apria Healthcare

    Pros

Leadership keep employees well informed of the changes within the industry and the plan for it. Always looking to stay ahead of the curve

    Cons

Billing and customer services in a centralized area proves challenging to the local customer.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the feedback from the field and act quickly. Workarounds shouldn't need to be used because of call center issues.

I have been working at Apria Healthcare

    Pros

Base salary, mileage, and helping people.

    Cons

The company continues to cut commissions, but raise quotas in spite of it. Leadership sends out mass emails letting everyone know that the company has met their goals, while sales reps no longer do, because the company has stopped paying commission on items we've always sold -- Items that our referrals expect us to continue to help them out with. Apria leadership has directed sales reps to "make sales calls" to referrals asking for documentation that results in the company getting paid, but sales reps do not make commission on the items. This irritates the customer and helps ruin the reputation of the sales rep. What is the purpose of a sales rep? Is it to do the job of billing and customer service? At Apria, this is the case. Apria was never the best company to work for, but at least there was a time when we could do our job (sales) and get paid for the commission we worked hard for. The customers (referrals and patients) suffer, as do the sales reps.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice for management. Those in corporate are content with their salaries and turning a blind eye to Apria's poor treatment of employees and customers.

    Pros

Patient, caregiver and health professional involvement that can give great job satisfaction.

    Cons

Senior leadership/ management that has little understanding of the patient and customer needs. Poor treatment of employees and good customers due to Corp direction...Allow local teams to make decisions that will meet the needs of customers rather than Top-Down mandates and negative management style.

    Advice to Management

Require Senior leadership and Div Leadership to visit customers on a regular basis. Customer focus is lacking. Eliminate consultants and listen to your own employees.

    Pros

Great company of you like the customers to be angry at you for constantly making excuses and no be able to deliver nothing as promised in accordance to company guidelines.

    Cons

Very untruthful from hiring process to commissions to services offered, to territory etc... Anything that goes wrong at the branch is the fault of sales despite the the inability/errors to provide advertised services. One is forced to lie to acquire business- very unethical. In addition, they knowingly break MEDICARE guidelines.

    Advice to Management

Sober up, enter a rehab program. Tell the truth, lying to employees who have families depending on them is unethical and

I have been working at Apria Healthcare full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Can negotiate base over 40 K. Not micromanaged too much. Reimburse for mileage. Could attain well into six figures depending on territory. Pretty decent training. Ability to have a company mentor, but have to insist on it. Good way to break into medical devices sales. Network with other reps from other industries to get out ASAP.

    Cons

Benefits suck. The health care plan deductible went from $200 a year to $2000 a year for family. Raises are minimal if any from 0% to 5% tops. Area Managers in some markets are not very helpful. Our Area Sales Manager Was very unethical and when HR was notified of his unethical practices he was only smacked on the wrist. Branch personal are over worked and unhappy. Turnover was ridiculous. Some months there'd be 2 people quitting at once. Not supportive of diversity in the sales force. Sales are expected to work in the evening and on weekends to complete call logs and also go to accounts to get referrals for weekend hospital discharges. Work life balance is hard. Again it depends on your territory but not likely to be a company you'd retire from. Areas like CA, the East Coast, Midwest, FL, GA, Hawaii have great management. KY, NV are hurting. Management is poor and no one is held accountable for numerous patient failures. Dr's literally hate the company and would rather patient pay out of pocket to go with another supplier over Apria.
