I have been working at ArcelorMittal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary is OK,decent place to work, wide range of flexibility on how individuals perform given tasks. Good 401K plan, tuition reimbursement, and flexible working schedule in my case.

    Cons

Lack of direction, from upper management very little opportunity to excel, and when those opportunities do become present, Absolutely no effort is placed to give everyone who is qualified the opportunity to apply for the job. its simply assigned to the Good old boy/ Gal club. lacking investment in modern engineering tools, salary raises, are not consistent, and when there are raises , its arbitrarily based . attrition rate is high

    Advice to Management

Make a good conscience effort to provide individuals with opportunities based on proven abilities and not based on favoritism, invest in your employees, and show appreciation when its due.

    Pros

401K, profit sharring, work life balance

    Cons

    vacation, pay, ability to advance

    Advice to Management

Don't advance people based on simply years of experience. There are lots of unqualified people in positions they shouldn't be in.

I have been working at ArcelorMittal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some ability to move to different positions in the company, lots of retirement-age employees so there is good room for advancement in the future as well as good resources for learning. Pretty laid-back atmosphere and nice people.

    Cons

They often move people where they don't want to be moved and we end up losing some good talent because of it. Most equipment is very old and not maintained well. Working with the union is a hassle. Morale is pretty low. No raises and healthcare increased, so we actually got pay decreases with more responsibility. Management rarely holds people accountable, so a lot of things don't get done that should be.

    Advice to Management

Hopefully the steel business turns around soon and we can start investing more in our people.

I have been working at ArcelorMittal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Location- NWI and Chicago accessible. Lower Indiana Taxes, 401 (k) matches 5% + 1%, Can be in charge of a lot very quickly- although this is not directly tied to pay.

    Cons

Negative attitude of fellow employees including upper management and HR, unstable growth in the market directly correlates to pay, Bad Healthcare coverage since they recently changed plan- high deductible for a family.

    Advice to Management

Adjust pay to match the market, treat employees as valued members of the company.

I worked at ArcelorMittal as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Got hands-on engineering experience.
    - Was able to work on a real project with guidance from a mentor.
    - Friendly management team.

    Cons

    - Felt pretty isolated from the rest of the company. Like with any large company, it starts to feel like you get lost in the crowd.
    - Ran out of things for me to do after my main project got to a finish.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep people feeling like they matter, and like they're included. I know that it's tough to keep a cohesive workforce when it's so big, but at least give it an effort.
