I have been working at ArcelorMittal USA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Forward-thinking, community involvement, employment development

    Cons

Union shop overshadows salaried workers; stronger focus on new recruits versus staple employees; minimal advancement opportunities; disparity of income across same job title/function because of new hire vs. internal movement.

    Pros

Lots of low hanging fruit projects, good job stability.

    Cons

Some people hired in don't realize they could be thrown right in as a hourly supervisor, and think they are going to be doing engineering work.

I have been working at ArcelorMittal USA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company seems to care about keeping its employees there long term. Unlike other steel companies, doesn't seem to do layoffs. Definitely plenty of work to do if you are motivated.

    Cons

Somewhat outdated mindset which can be expected at a steel company. Some managers (not all) don't seem very flexible in working with changing priorities for younger workers.

I worked at ArcelorMittal USA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very good company to work for, good hourly rate of pay and many benefits. Company of the future in steel making.

    Cons

Possibly shift work and weather conditions. Along with doubles after a note turn. Scheduled that might require me to work holidays. Working a six day work scheduled

    ArcelorMittal USA Response

    Jan 27, 2017 – Representative - Talent Acquisition

Thank you for the review! With our operations running 24 hours a day, seven days a week, shift work is an aspect of many of our jobs and can be challenging although necessary. The Company... More

I worked at ArcelorMittal USA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay on par with the industry with ample overtime opportunities. Note that OT is paid at straight time over 50hrs.
Great place to gain job experience.
If you are one of the boys you will know it with in 2 years and have upward mobility in the company. If not simply move along.

    Cons

Salary bonus is no where near advertised.
Working with the union is extremely difficult and will often drag their feet or fight you every turn.
Salary is treated as second class to the union.
Upper management will not support you in order to maintain the status quo to the extent of under cutting your authority and making you look weaker.
Impact on your social life with long hours unhealthy eating and drinking habits that plague blue collar workers.
Hot, Cold, Dirty and oily working conditions but what do you think you signed up for I'll move that last one back up to pros.

    Advice to Management

Clean house of weak/under performing managers M1-M4.
Reward and promote based on merit this is the worst good ole boy system I have ever seen.
Unseat the union power and take back control of your workforce.
The high turn over rate should come as no surprise due to the high disparity of the before mentioned items.
Safety: this company in the past only had an illusion that it cared about safety but it was only until recently in 16 that the culture begin to change. Keep driving home that culture. General good order and discipline will help make your work force more productive and safer.

I have been working at ArcelorMittal USA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ample mobility and opportunity to work different types of jobs. A new employee can easily learn all about how the plant runs from other salaried employees, or from more "front line" experience.

    Cons

Company does not hire enough people to adequately fill roles. Working with the union is a challenge at best and an unessesary roadblock at worst.

    Advice to Management

The company loses a lot of new engineers by immidiatly placing them in the shift manager role. This placement is often revealed last minute, and when accompanied by a short training period causes an extremely frustrating experience.
