I worked at Arch Coal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Arch Coal has a professional and dedicated work force. Compensation and benefits are excellent.
When the energy market is good, Arch Coal is very profitable.

    Cons

The energy markets are currently very bad, therefore, Arch Coal is experiencing very tough times. The government is not friendly to the coal industry which makes the situation worse for management and the employees.

    Advice to Management

Attempt as best you can to pay down the current debt. Do not make any additional purchases until the debt is paid down.

I have been working at Arch Coal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay and great benefits. Will pay for education and conferences. Good working environment. Flex time. The company finally realized that the leadership in IT needed an overhaul, now the department just needs some direction and better communication throughout the different areas.

    Cons

The industry is hurting right now, hopefully Arch can pull through it. IT can tend to rely on contractors, they have no issue with paying top dollar for contractors, they could take care of the employees before contractors.

    Advice to Management

instead of hiring contractors, take care of the employees that are intelligent and loyal. Instead of buying all off the shelve software solutions, use your talent and build some systems.
