    Pros

30% discount. Love being the first to see new product coming in.

    Cons

Being an instructo it's difficult to teach a class for the first time when you never made the cards yourself.

    Advice to Management

For instructors...give them a card kit to make themselves so when they teach that card class, they know how to make the cards!

    I worked at Archiver's full-time

    Pros

Loved working in a positive environment with customers that loved to shop with us each day. Employee discount was great too!

    Cons

Managers are expected to hit payroll goals and that can mean putting in more than 45 hours per week. Pay wasn't very attractive and visits from corporate were very infrequent.

    Advice to Management

Ask employees what they need and how things could be improved. Invest in future of the company instead of getting stuck waiting for things to happen.

    Pros

Fun, respectful atmosphere. Very good about time off.

    Cons

They want the managers to have fewer associates on payroll, which equals more hours and less flexability. Everyone has to work a lot harder for less pay.

    Advice to Management

Make employee opinions known to upper level management.

    Pros

Love working with friendly people who share my hobby and helping customers with their creative projects. Also enjoy seeing all the great new scrapbooking products.

    Cons

Pay is low. Nights and weekends are required.

    Advice to Management

Hire a cleaning service to clean the bathrooms and the floors.

    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

Employees and culture was great. Really enjoyed my time there. Creative, family-oreinted, friendly, regular customer-base, inspiring.

    Cons

Disorganization, lack of standard procedures in many areas, what seemed like a fair bit of concerning spending and a lack of acknowledgement of financial realities with the field team.

    Advice to Management

Some level of transparency is critical to maintaining a solid team. When the tram starts to feel left in the dark, things start to go awry.

    Pros

If you really are an avid scrapbooker and enjoy being around people who do, this is kind of a dream job. Archivers is truly a unique specialty retailer with a remarkably untapped and very focused niche.

    Cons

Company going through lots of growing pains with the challenging ecomomic environment. Sales and service focused, but fewer sales associates to do the job.

    Advice to Management

Get more input on what is going on at the store level from your Managers and people on the front line. Listen to them!

Current Employee - Part-Time Customer Service/Instructor in Saint Louis, MO

    Pros

    Good Employee Discount
    Flexible Scheduling
    Co-workers with similar interest/hobbies

    Cons

    No Insurance
    Low Pay
    Not enough time/materials/tools for classes
Discontinued Out of Inventory items are DESTROYED rather than donated to schools or non-profit groups
    No recycling

    Advice to Management

Make sure your instructors have time and materials to prepare for classes. Allow enough time for classes - does anybody in charge READ the customer evaluations? Provide ongoing training for employees - there are new products coming out all the time - teach us about them so we can sell them for you! And donate the old out of inventory items to a non-profit instead of destroying - so wasteful!
