I have been working at Arctic Information Technology full-time

    Pros

A small business containing professionals committed to customer satisfaction. Recognizing the need to grow, Arctic Information Technology was acquired as an autonomous entity of Doyon Government Group. The company committed to strategic planning over 3 years ago, which included company-wide revenue reporting, a communication/suggestion system, and improving recognition system. Employees are overall talented, smart, cordial, and good at working together.

    Cons

Growth is slow and methodical. Over half of the employee base are telecommuters spread across the U.S. making it difficult sometimes to evolve as a team. Formalized training is lacking. Wages are fair and raises are not automatic. One has to prove worth and justify career and pay advancement.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the commitment to employee enrichment. Strive for transparency and ensure innovation drives recognition and reward. Steer the culture to stay on course for continued sentiment of, "This is a company where I like to work."

    Pros

The team at Arctic IT is a group of talented, genuine, and driven people highly focused on customer satisfaction - a great recipe for success. There's very little turn-over of staff and the strategic direction of the company seems well thought out and pursued in a disciplined way.

Customer and employee feedback is very positive and Arctic IT consistently gathers and evaluates feedback from both staff and clients in an open and transparent manner.

Investments are being made in systems and tools to help further advance the long-term success of the company (perhaps a little overdue) and employees are given the tools they need to be successful.

    Cons

As a smaller company, the long-term progression through titles that some seek won't be found at Arctic IT as there simply aren't that many positions. Though, the company is growing and, as it expands, this could change.

    Pros

Arctic IT is a great organization comprised of energetic, talented, hard-working individuals who have a common drive to establish and maintain long-term relationships with clients by providing value to them. This is the place to be for those who genuinely prefer the “no two days are the same” environment – it’s dynamic, can be quite fast paced, and the team is constantly presented with new and exciting challenges. Many on the team appreciate the ability to travel frequently and love living in Anchorage – a great environment that’s family-friendly with lots of amenities.

    Cons

For some, frequent travel can be a little burdensome. However, the management team tries to accommodate individual needs and requirements as much as possible. This isn’t the place for those who don’t like or cannot tolerate change and constantly having to learn and grow.

    Advice to Management

Some additional investments could be made in the tools and systems used to support clients and their needs. Though there have been recent upgrades and expansions, work should continue in this area. There seem to be many manual processes that could be automated to help alleviate the administrative load on the team.

    Pros

You will get alot of frequent flier miles. Also, it definately beats being unemployed. I'm hoping it looks good on my resume. If you don't work in the Anchorage office you get pretty good office accomodations or work from home.

    Cons

Pay is mediocre and pay increases are not based on your performance, but rather how little management thinks they can get away with based on their knowledge of your personal life (having a baby, wife working, et cetera). Working in the Anchorage office means crappy equipment (small monitors, horrible chairs) and probably having a cube, not an office. Benefits suck, there is no other way to put it, and have actually gotten worse over the last year or two as management has figured that the economy will prevent people from leaving. Promotion does not occur, management hires from outside the organization instead of developing existing personnel. Management has grown less and less involved with the company as it has grown.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your people. I suspect there will be alot of turnover in the next year.

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

It's a good place to learn new technologies. They have decent benefits compared to other places.

    Cons

It's a place that if you don't belong to the club you won't succeed. It's whom you know rather than merit. Some managers do not have the qualifications for them to be in those positions and they will make it difficult for you to succeed.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to treat everyone equally otherwise they will be problems. Past employees are talked down on just because they chose not to be part of the club. Employees in the same position are treated differently with one doing whatever they want while the other is reprimanded of the doing the same thing.

    Pros

Arctic IT is filled with talented, driven, and flexible team members. It is a high performing team who gets along and collaborates well across geographic barriers. Things I love the most include the team energy and camaraderie, customer focus, and the ability to grow and take on more responsibilities.

    Cons

If you can't think on your feet, are intimidated by working with people, or just dread change - this isn't the place for you.
