I have been working at Arena Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Even though it's not a start-up, it feels like one. It's dynamic, fast-pace, challenging yet rewarding. Some good progressive benefits, you can feel the energy - pretty exciting place to be right now! Great bunch to work with, too.

    Cons

Because of all the change over the last year, there is much movement and work to get done - need more hands on deck.

    Pros

It was great to work for Arena Pharm. Excellent benefits, culture , equipment and salary.

    Cons

Unfortunately due to financial restriction company became a virtual one and had to go through very deep (first time 35% and a final 75% ) staff reduction

    Advice to Management

keep working on positive outcome of clinical trial

    Pros

This is probably different after the fire sale but when I worked there we had pretty good benefits: 1) Up to 6% match to your 401k, 2) 3x match for Flex Spending, and 3) health insurance paid in full for you and your family.

    Cons

There was a time when certain departments seemed to be set on preventing other groups from getting their job done.

    Advice to Management

Hire back some of the exceptional employees you let go.

"Good company to work for but a lot of corporate politics"

    Pros

Flexible company. You are able to balance family and work well. Benefits are good. Stock options are ok. Since it is a smaller company you get to know and interact with many people including the CEO. You are not pigeonholed into one job function and are able try new things. This will greatly expand your resume. There IT department is Fantastic!

    Cons

Corporate Politics. There is just too much of it. Check out this book "Games at your work". Upper management does what they want and do not take your opinion into account (they try to make it look like your opinion counts but it doesn't). Project prioritization is poor, constantly shifting.
    Low salary. Raises are poor.

    Advice to Management

We are all trying to achieve the same goal. Don't compete to see who can do it better or faster. Rather, work together and communicate information it will avoid duplicated work.
