    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Argo Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

As a firm believer in servant leadership I can genuinely share that each one of the team members I manage is committed to our departmental goals. Their voice and contribution propels Argo to the next level and we as a team are committed to the principal of trust and respect. Yes, there have been times of despair but we lived through it because of hope. Hope that things would get better and they did as they will continue to improve as place our mark in the insurance industry.

    Cons

I make the best of each situation...so not much negative feedback from me.

I worked at Argo Group for more than 3 years

    Pros

People! I really enjoyed all my co-workers and my direct boss. My boss was the most knowledgeable person regarding Commercial Insurance I've ever known.

    Cons

As stated before, this company is a playground for exec's. As long as you're in the good graces of the CEO and CFO you're fine. When you're out, you're out. Some of the business acquisitions appear to be nothing more than just finding a cool international place to open an office. Upper Management has a 3 to 4 year life cycle. You notice all exec's are within 2 years of hire. Enjoy being the cool kids until you get sideways with Mark.

I have been working at Argo Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company does a nice job of investing in employees' education. Nice office in downtown San Antonio. I am paid well for the work that I do.

    Cons

Half of the company has a VP or Director title - 90% of those VPs and Directors seem to be in their position due to their duration with Argo rather than ability to perform at a high level. Many employees have been deceived about compensation. It, like so many other things at the company, seems to be a black hole As a manager, I cannot be straightforward with my direct reports because of information asymmetry (not sure if the lack of information on my side is because of intentional withholding or just lack of competence/caring by my superiors). The lack of competence likely starts with the CEO, but in my several years of service, I have never been able to approach him to have a meaningful conversation - he seems to be on a pedestal. I have been unimpressed with his poise and ability to think on his feet at conferences.

I worked at Argo Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Healthcare Benefits, new offices, free health screenings and flu shots.

    Cons

Aloof CEO and Executives that use the public company as a personal playground with lavish parties and trips to international luxury destinations. All the while expecting their employees to do more with less and shareholders to accept minimal stock value appreciation. This company exhibits what is wrong with corporate America by outsourcing skilled and talented claims, underwriting, IT and audit positions to India.
