    Pros

There are many smart people that work here. They have a great charitable donation matching program.

    Cons

Several employees were laid off last year, but it wasn't a bad year. There is a sense of politicking and favoritism with upper management.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees as if they play a important role in the company's success. Upper management should be more visible, and act fairly to all employees.

I worked at Argo Group (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People! I really enjoyed all my co-workers and my direct boss. My boss was the most knowledgeable person regarding Commercial Insurance I've ever known.

    Cons

As stated before, this company is a playground for exec's. As long as you're in the good graces of the CEO and CFO you're fine. When you're out, you're out. Some of the business acquisitions appear to be nothing more than just finding a cool international place to open an office. Upper Management has a 3 to 4 year life cycle. You notice all exec's are within 2 years of hire. Enjoy being the cool kids until you get sideways with Mark.

    Advice to Management

Why bother. They won't listen. A shame because this company has so much potential.

    Pros

Good Benefits, Nice office space & equipment, Easy Travel

    Cons

Poor management, slow to improve processes, lots of "big ideas" which go no where.

    Advice to Management

Start listening to your employees for areas of improvement and make your management make the adjustments. Do more in-house and don't relay on vendors. Beef-up your own staff and trust them to make the right decisions.

    Pros

Professional. contemporary office environments; business casual atmosphere; available managers; good quality, friendly employees; team environment.

    Cons

Prior company mergers, acquisitions, consolidations, evolutions, etc. make the organizational history and structure difficult to follow. It takes time to learn how your division, department, team came to be and how it fits into the overall organization.

    Advice to Management

More cross - functional training and other department product knowledge to allow each employee to be a better spokesperson for the entire organization.
