Pros

The pay is good but you’ll be expected to work 25hrs and 8 days. Parking is a plus.

Cons

Working at a startup where the CEO runs everyone away because she feels that she can do the job better. I’ve witnessed the CEO run away 15+ employees away and fired 10+ employees or so yearly. You will not get properly trained but you will be expected to properly know how to do your job and you can’t ask questions because she expects you to know how to do your job starting day 1. This company lives by the saying, “we figure things out.” But you better not figure things out when the CEO doesn’t have time to help with the process because she would come down with the hammer. 9/10 your manager would be the CEO and she’s not going to like your style of work because she feels like she can do it better but due to her schedule she needs to delegate and hire someone. Just know that you will be micromanaged. Push come to shove the CEO would give you a book to read that could help you understand how to work by yourself and figure things out alone while she holds the upmost expectations for you to perform well.

Toxic company culture

Pros

Helping teachers and students, contributing to an innovative method of teaching and learning

Cons

The company culture is extremely toxic due to upper management. Fantastic members of all teams feel they must constantly walk on eggshells to appease management, or else they will get yelled at or fired on the spot. During the 4 months I worked there, two employees were fired and four quit. Employees across the board are begging for actionable feedback and receiving none. The CEO claims one of the core values of the company is to “make things better,” but when employees suggest creative and innovative ways to improve efficiency and workflow, it is interpreted as complaining or having a bad attitude. Upper management does not care about making changes to improve, and ultimately the results of the existing inefficiencies are blamed on employees. Overall, employees attempt to be proactive, but management continues to be reactive. I was hired as a member of a brand new team within the company and it quickly became clear that management did not understand the intricacies of our work. Our expectations and goals were constantly changing without any warning or conversations with our team. We were regularly criticized for not meeting nebulous expectations that we were unaware of. Furthermore, when we accepted blame and criticism out of fear of being fired, and asked how we could improve, no feedback or suggestions were provided.

Pros

Nice benefits. Helpful staff. Clean warehouse. Opportunity to grow.

Cons

The owner plans to prioritize production machinery and third party vendors over physical workers in the warehouse setting; there are very few hours for part time workers. When the previous warehouse management was abruptly released, the owner (acting as remaining supervisor) lacked any engagement or transparency towards those who stayed. Before the majority of remaining workers quit, we were informally updated through an app to enforce completely new scheduling/procedures overnight while a new manager was quickly pursued. Upper management is lacking in communication and messy. No procedure for Covid exposures. Make sure to research all reviews for this start-up on all platforms.
