I worked at Ariba full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Solid company owns them so they won't go out of business.

    Cons

No control over accounts - overlay model.
    - Poor implementation track record since SAP acquisition
    - Too many hands in cookie jar, lost of talking heads makes getting things done very tough
    - Political environment, incompetent managers

    Advice to Management

Flatten the org and give more control to the salespeople v SAP AE generalists.

I worked at Ariba full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Um, I don't know. No one ever went into the office so it was quiet.?..

    Cons

Micro-management, mid level 'leadership' focused on their career at the expense of yours. No guidance on critical tasks, then you are chastised for not hitting the mark, although no one explained what the mark was.
Manager based in Pittsburgh, no encouragement, only antagonistic remarks. Moved a colleague of mine into a completely different set of accounts (in essence, a demotion) without telling him why. If they want to get rid of you, you can hit your numbers, be put on "a plan", achieve your tasks on that plan, and still be let go.
Horrible place, managers had no common sense management skills.

    Run. Away.

I have been working at Ariba full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Compensation
    Work From Home
Cool Gadgets (mac, iPad, iPhone, etc)

    Cons

High turnover and always changing leaders. No one knows whats going on, no defined processes. Everyone is overworked, and leadership doesn't seem to care and are very far removed to actual day to day operations. Culture is not supportive but rather very closed and non-transparent. Very demotivating to work here.

I have been working at Ariba full-time

    Pros

Good procurement applications. Beers on Fridays and free lunch on Wednesdays

    Cons

Very unprofessional environment with supervisors being toxic in nature and playing favorites.

    Advice to Management

Don't just look at numbers. QM can manipulate the numbers

    Pros

    Cons

Work. I have resigned within 2 months of joining, only because of quality of work given. Very very old stacks used

    Advice to Management

They don't listen, so I don't want to give any advice

I worked at Ariba full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Catered lunch
    Beer bash
    Decent location
    Pays salary on time
    Good for retirement

    Cons

At Ariba the entire engineering organization does bug fixing. They have entire 6 month releases just to fix bugs. The code base in ancient and must be submitted to Computer History Museum in MV. Fixing bugs adds more bugs and then fix those bugs and repeat. Some old timers are really good and helpful, they are probably sticking around because of good pay or lack of opportunity outside. Most have surrendered their career goals to fixing bugs in Aribas code base and would have no future outside.

HR is a joke and you see them only during entry and exit interview. Don't get fooled by their rigourous long running interview process. I was scheduled 2 onsites and met a dozen of people asking interesting design and algo question. None of that shall ever be used. Good luck if you decide to join Ariba, and best of luck on next job if u plan to stick around long. Might be good for managerial role, but certainly not for engineers.

    Advice to Management

Get your act straight and move the entire engineering team to India.

I have been working at Ariba full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The coworkers are great, and they are the only reason I like this place. Honestly the work itself is good and we could learn something about supply chain management.

    Cons

Not many promotion opportunities and especially for bilingual employees. I have heard many bilingual people who work here for many years but not being promoted just because they are not native american, however they are more experienced.
There is no good enough training for new employees and my manager just want us to start working even though we know rare about the product.
My manager has not much experience of being a leader.

    Pros

You now get to say you work for SAP, which is a good thing for your resume.

    Cons

You WILL be working under SAP. It is an old, clunky big company riddled with middle management. Which means it is the same as other big corporate companies.

    Advice to Management

Nothing to say, since we now belong to SAP

I have been working at Ariba full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Easy to call off.

    Cons

A bit stressful and it is not a plus or having promotion opportunity for people who can speak more than two languages(I have heard especially for people who were not from the US.) There is no good and solid training time at the right beginning to start this work.

    Advice to Management

My manager has not much experience of being a leader of the team and when it comes to workload, most bilingual people work more than the local people who can only speak one language. The bilingual people have not much opportunity to move up in the long run or work at day shift.

    Pros

As long as you are doing what is asked everything is OK. Free food and beer Friday.

    Cons

More focus on Leadership. Leaders and managers get promoted in the middle of the year but engineers are told that budget is short. Very Leadership driven company. 20 % of engineering staff has already left. Only people who are here for a long time stay as they are acclimated to the environment.

    Advice to Management

Please have some empathy towards the engineering.
