I have been working at Ariba full-time

    Pros

    - For employees, resources from SAP. For company, client leads from SAP.
    - Currently the few if not the only major player in its field, which helps to secure more big clients.
    - Knowledgeable coworkers and teams.

    Cons

    - Old tech stack that has lots of bugs and needs love to refactor and maintain. They are trying to move forward though.
    - A sink or swim attitude that hinders new people to learn and contribute meaningfully.
    - The company is growing in numbers and clients, but from individual perspective it's more like a task grinding machine instead of moving meaningfully career-wise.

    Advice to Management

Establish concrete goals and major projects and communicate clearly with the team.
Provide resources to help team members complete projects.
    Create a more collaborate environment.

    Pros

You have to know what you are getting into. Ariba is part of SAP, which is a big organization.
    So with large organization:

    Work life balance
    Great Benefits
    Good Pay
Company has lots of money. So no nickel and dime small stuff. Order work related stuff, books, monitors, laptops, ipads, ergo keyboards are all auto approved.
    free lunch
    401k match
    profit sharing

Great Technological Vision - I know people complain about the legacy stack. But the guys who created Ariba products back in 2000 were brilliant. If you spend some time digging in, you'll see the incredible engineering power that went into building these products. Back in 2000, days of dial up modem and AOL, in Ariba, you write some XML and the server will generate DB schema, OR Mapping, Server logic, and UI. The entire stack to run your application.

It's too bad, if Ariba would leverage their platform more, they could expand way beyond procurement.

If you want to crank out code and not fix any issue after release, join mainline team.
If you enjoying fixing issues, joining non-mainline team, that handles all customer Issues.

    Cons

    Legacy code base.
Because of the technologies are tightly coupled, DB, OR Mapping, Server logic, UI, it's challenging to debug an issue.
Multiple development centers, US, India, China, syncing requirements and design can be a long process.
Lots of steps and check points, all along the development process.

    Advice to Management

None, they are too smart for me.
