I have been working at Ariba full-time

    Pros

SAP campus in Palo Alto is great. The location, the food and an onsite gym.

    Cons

Ariba culture is bad. They don't seem to like each other and they definitely don't like SAP employees. Lots of overtime. They seem to think that you should live the job. There is no work/life balance. The majority of the managers are very bad.

    Advice to Management

Realize you are no longer a startup, you are a part of SAP and employees need a life outside of the office. Working 24/7 with constant stress is not going to make the product better.

    Pros

Great employees who really care about the business.
Great managers who actually CARE about thier employees
    Competitive pay
Education is encouraged and paid for by the company
    Plenty of opportunity for growth
Being aquired by such a large company (SAP) has opened all kinds of doors and opportunities for those established employees as well as new ones

    Cons

Transitioning from old process and policies to new SAP policies would have been easier with a bit more internal training
SAP is a very large company and Ariba has lost a bit of that smaller company feel
Need to allow more back fill for headcount lost to those who quit

    Advice to Management

I came on to Ariba for a very short term project when they were being acquired by SAP. Anyone who has been through that type of transition knows it is a crazy time. People were scared for their jobs quit leaving a HUGE work load for the rest of the employees to handle, and we did and did so very well. Thankfully my contract was extended and I was able to be of even more help. I would encourage more PRE training for employees to transition from the old company’s policies and process to the new SAP ones. Realize the fear involved in these sort of transitions and communicate compassion and understanding more effectively.

I have been working at Ariba full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Progressive work environment. Great coworkers and supervisors. Great benefits. Competitive pay.
I have been in too many call center environments that do not treat you like adults. This company and your direct supervisors value and respect you, your worth, and your judgment. A very honest and accommodating company. Decently quick advancement, multiple programs to help you work on and develop a career path, and they care about your progress.

    Cons

Variable work schedule may not work for everyone. Call center work can be repetitive. That is solely a con based upon personal preferences.

I worked at Ariba full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy going culture. If you can work inside a loose environment with little guidance, help or support this is a great place to work as a freelance person. You are on your own here and that can be good for a person with a willingness to do so. Not for everyone.

    Cons

Frat house, immature, drinking culture. New ideas not welcome. If experienced, that background will not be valued. Young people with no experience or skills are given leadership roles in front of clients to the detriment of clients. Technology has been milked since the 1990's and showing its age. Way behind competitors. Resistance to using SAP technology and tools.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing as the competitors are loving it.

    Pros

The coworkers are great, and they are the only reason I like this place. Honestly the work itself is good and we could learn something about supply chain management.

    Cons

Not many promotion opportunities and especially for bilingual employees. I have heard many bilingual people who work here for many years but not being promoted just because they are not native american, however they are more experienced.
There is no good enough training for new employees and my manager just want us to start working even though we know rare about the product.
My manager has not much experience of being a leader.

I worked at Ariba full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company did a great job leveraging a cloud model to capture market share and drive shareholder value. The global footprint and Tier 1 brand status were a plus.

    Cons

The market was very saturated, and the pricing models weren't always competitive with other alternatives. They did not have a sales culture.

    Advice to Management

None, as the company was ultimately acquired by SAP. The challenges now are SAP's - to leverage the strength of the brand and SAP's existing customer base to drive further adoption.

    Pros

Great People who actually care about you, Good training and most managers are in tune with employees

    Cons

Salary and comp package is very low for the industry. Advancement is hard to come by unless one pushes with all their might.

    Advice to Management

Have clearer expectations for advancement and increase the compensation. Many quality consultants are lost to competitors' Ariba practices

    Pros

You now get to say you work for SAP, which is a good thing for your resume.

    Cons

You WILL be working under SAP. It is an old, clunky big company riddled with middle management. Which means it is the same as other big corporate companies.

    Advice to Management

Nothing to say, since we now belong to SAP
