I worked at Ariba as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The perks from working at SAP, and the Early Talent programs were beyond my expectations. Lots of networking opportunities and events to look forward to.

    Cons

Very poor management and treatment of employees. Unrealistic expectations and without attention to detail in assignments. Gossip was very common, often non-factual and did not provide a work environment young people can grow in. There's a lot of executive level slander towards employees and confusion from Data Governance, did not receive any feedback on work. Lots of unnecessary rework and finger pointing as well. Impossible expectations to meet. Would not recommend working here for anyone hoping to develop/progress in career goals.

    Advice to Management

Please provide constructive feedback rather than finger pointing and slander. Had spoken with HR about the issue, no action/remediation was taken.

Lot's of confusion caused by constant change
Core products have matured. Innovation comes now in small increments.
New leadership doesn't seem to understand the business

    Advice to Management

    Stick to a plan
Create a more secure environment where people feel safe to innovate

I worked at Ariba as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I started with SAP Ariba as part of their summer Internship Experience Project which is only in its 2nd year. It's easy to tell that they're gearing up their internship program to compete with other valley tech tycoons and leverage the early talent in the Bay Area. Over the summer, we were treated to an orientation trip to Seattle, a multitude of social events, face time with higher management, and free lunch on-site. The mentoring structure of any particular internship highly depends on the hiring manager, however. Luckily, I had an amazing one who made my first corporate internship very relaxed and stress-free.

    Cons

There were some kinks as the program is new. Many interns weren't given official desks for lack of space and had to sit at side tables near the bathroom, we had to figure payroll out on our own and the first paycheck came 1 month and a half in, but all were understandable since the program managers went out of their way to accommodate us. The average employee is older and this impacted the company culture, I couldn't envision returning for a full-time position.

    Advice to Management

Great job with iXp - can I come back for summer 2017? ;)

I worked at Ariba as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I had a wonderful time in my summer at Ariba and would definitely recommend it. The team was very nice and interns were able to work on meaningful projects. Interns also got various perks (free lunch, baseball game, etc)

    Cons

It took a while to get situated. The internship was very hands off with little hand holding. Be prepared to do a lot of learning on the side.

    Advice to Management

Great job making interns feel welcome. Thanks for the experience. Weekly meetings to discuss goals and examine work would also be helpful.

I worked at Ariba full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Catered lunch
    Beer bash
    Decent location
    Pays salary on time
    Good for retirement

    Cons

At Ariba the entire engineering organization does bug fixing. They have entire 6 month releases just to fix bugs. The code base in ancient and must be submitted to Computer History Museum in MV. Fixing bugs adds more bugs and then fix those bugs and repeat. Some old timers are really good and helpful, they are probably sticking around because of good pay or lack of opportunity outside. Most have surrendered their career goals to fixing bugs in Aribas code base and would have no future outside.

HR is a joke and you see them only during entry and exit interview. Don't get fooled by their rigourous long running interview process. I was scheduled 2 onsites and met a dozen of people asking interesting design and algo question. None of that shall ever be used. Good luck if you decide to join Ariba, and best of luck on next job if u plan to stick around long. Might be good for managerial role, but certainly not for engineers.

    Advice to Management

Get your act straight and move the entire engineering team to India.

I have been working at Ariba (More than a year)

    Pros

Open-minded, friendly atmosphere, high amount of days of paid sick leave, great opportunities to grow fast if one is ambitious, good facilities one can ask for, also ergo equipment.

    Cons

Company is extending and many procedures are being slowly introduced. That can be both positive for people, who need to follow certain processes and negative for more creative people, who like to think independently and are result oriented.
