    Pros

Leader in the space. Has made a transition from on-premise to on-demand technology - one of the few companies that has been able to make this jump. Stock price has been jumping.

    Cons

Politics will get you up the ladder, not productivity. The leadership team is thin on the products and technology experience outside of Ariba. Organizational structure is strange and still shows the effects of growing by acquisition with lots of battles among the tribes.

Investment in infrastructure has been lacking, and the company is inefficient because of it.

Sunnyvale may be the official HQ of Ariba, but everyone knows that Atlanta is the emerging and de facto HQ for Ariba.

    Advice to Management

How about a normal organizational structure? How about resolving the multiple overlapping groups? Oh, and why not share some of those millions that you guys are milking from the company?

    Pros

The company is in a great place to capitalize on it's position in the industry as the market rebounds. But aside from the company position, it's an employer that does a great job of giving flexibility, work/life balance and good compensation.

    Cons

Communication across the multiple cities and departments could be better. And sometimes it feels as though we can't decide if we are a big or small company, the danger being we'll slip into the bad characteristics of each.

    Advice to Management

We need more open access and communication with senior leaders and decision makers. The company is not so large that we shouldn't have good, fast, open communication across teams, departments, vertical titles and locations.

    Pros

Great talent people, and many of them are very senior 10+ years. Good technical (UI) framework to learn. Good compensation and benefit. Great balance between person life and work.

    Cons

Bad executive leadership. They only care about how to suck more money/stock out of the company. Lack of leadership to get more business. Since company is not growing, it helps created politics even within engineering people. Engineers could be fighting for promotion and responsibility.

    Advice to Management

Treat your workers well with fair promotion and compensation.

    Pros

Market leader, gets people exposed to the cutting edge of Spend Management. In general good peers tend to be very well educated in the field, and contribute significantly to running projects.
Benefits package is outstanding, and salires tend to be a little above average.

    Cons

Career advancement was very poor. Remote employees were reporting to managers that changed in average every 9 months during my time there, therefore preventing the creation of a plan that was meaningful.
Internal politics are very close to be unmanageable. Managemen teams in Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Sunnyvale tended to communicate very poorly and created a lot of friction and compromises.
Executive compensation is hugely out-sized. The only quarter in which management forfeited their bonuses, the company was suddenly profitable by a wide margin

    Advice to Management

The incredible loss of talent that currently affects Ariba is a direct result of internal staffing practices that try to extract maximum performance with little guidance or formal training. My team was top-heavy, meaning a lot of expensive management overhead, and not that many delivery people who could actually deliver the work. The team members were heavily overworked and given additional responsibilities without properly offloading others, with the result that we couldn't deliver the goods without working 70 hours a week.

    Pros

The Solutions are relevant and valuable in today's economy. Most understand and value teamwork and you would be hard pressed to find an Aribian that wasn't willing to help if they can. The compensation & benefits are good.

    Cons

Executive Leadership is weak & vague and they either have no strategy, or it changes so often that unless you are in the know it would never seem like there was one. Politics and favoritism abounds so if you aren't connected politically, you will be overlooked for promotions and opportunities. The company fails to invest in the areas that they say are important to them & managment by fear is common technique used by managers.

    Advice to Management

We have a great solution suite and all the makings of a GREAT company. Our culture stinks and as our leaders it's up to you to model differently. Start and keep investing in things you all say are important to our health as a company.

    Pros

Good salary and benefits. All staff, no matter what level you are, start with 4 weeks paid vacation plus the days off between Christmas and New Years. There are a lot of very smart employees here, but the environment can be much like a soap opera. Overall staff need to be more professional behind the scenes. Limited yearly promotions need to be looked at again. These use to be quarterly, then semi-annually, and now yearly. They are limited as well, so you may never ever get promoted. Very political environment. Watch your back.

    Cons

Very little chance for advancement. Extremely poor communication at all levels. Often hear things "thru the grapevine" in advance before an official announcement is made. In many cases, the official communications never come.

    Advice to Management

Keep all levels of communication open.
