I have been working at Arista Networks full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Arista has a good work-life balance with flexible hours and they just started matching 401k contributions. The products are more reliable than their competitors' are, and Arista employs a comprehensive automatic unit-testing system that is unlike anything the competition has.

    Cons

During interviews, Arista proudly touts that every employee is afforded time to do interesting work with teams employing rotating job schedules in which every employee takes turns at the interesting aspects of software engineering and the not-so-interesting aspects of software engineering. What actually happens is that team managers come up with multiple ways to describe bug-fixing and rotate the same 2-3 employees...

    Advice to Management

Not all of us were here before the IPO. You need to give newer employees a reason to stay instead of taking them for granted. The inane Areview/peer-bonus system might have worked out well enough 5 years ago when everybody was grateful to have a job at a startup with a bright future and a big payout imminent. Those of who weren't here before the IPO need a real reason to stay, especially when other companies are...

    I worked at Arista Networks

    Pros

Arista has a very relaxed working culture. There was good guidance and mentorship programs.

    Cons

The age gap is kind of split between the interns and the full time workers.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps a bigger emphasis on more diversity in terms of age.

I have been working at Arista Networks for more than 3 years

    Pros

If you have lots of drive and initiatives, this is a great place for you. The open environment and helpful, talented colleagues will help you to get where you desire to be much faster than many other places. There are very few politics. The leaders are great engineers themselves. You get free parking for you and your friends when Levi stadium has an event.

    Cons

The leaders are engineers -- sometimes they seem to spend a bit too much energy on not-so-important engineering problems, which I don't see why they cannot delegate, and too little energy on problems that will make the environment better, to motivate people better, to empower people, etc. The leaders also seemed to have some inabilities to push agenda, and as a result, had to rely on launching campaigns too often, especially...

    Advice to Management

What kills you is often what once brought you the great success. What was once the great things (culture, self-drive, openness, Areview, to name a few) about Arista may not longer be, and might even be the wrong thing to do with the growth and a very different set of people. What distinguishes great leaders from the rest is her/his ability to adapt to changes, and more importantly, think ahead of the changes.

I have been working at Arista Networks full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Great people who are passionate about the product. - Fast-paced and you feel like constantly contributing to product.

    Cons

    - Engineers who joined in 2012 or before (henceforth referred to as loyal employees) are massively underpaid - Loyal's are sticking with the company in a hope that underwater stock options might breath a new life soon. Company is taking advantage of this mindset and not paying them enough - Areview: The appraisal process is not transparent in rankings to the employee. What is the point of the appraisal if an employee...

    Advice to Management

Company culture has changed a lot (especially in last 2 years) Adjust the compensation of hard working loyals before they leave

I have been working at Arista Networks full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    * Very talented software team. People are motivated by themselves and by the management as well to take the time to write tools and automate their tasks. Good tooling leads to more productivity and less mundane tasks. * Great culture - "do the right thing" is the mantra. Rarely compromise quality over timelines. Very good culture of writing automated unit tests and end-to-end product tests - This is not new for web companies...

    Cons

    * Some growing pains, slight decline in hiring standards as compared to few years ago. Also, some bad apples have stuck around forever. Not sure how. * No free lunches, massages, etc. Very Average benefits * Does not have a "cool" tag attached to it. * Peer review system's lack of transparency may upset people - esp. those not benefitting from it * Not many people are happy with their compensation (excl. pre IPO...

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, the distractions will pass. The need to maintain quality is paramount, listen closely to engineers complaining about where the quality is suffering and try to address the root cause. Few people speak up, so hear them out carefully and try not to dismiss their concerns. After all, quality is one of the main reason for the company's success.

I have been working at Arista Networks for less than a year

    Pros

-Arista has great Senior management. -Employees have a lot of freedom and there is a lot of trust in the employees to do the right thing and get their work done. -Great values: "always do the right thing". They don't do quick fixes.

    Cons

They provide good compensation for interns, but it would be nice to have a housing stipend or housing provided since this area is so expensive.

    Advice to Management

Make sure that you don't compromise your values as you grow.
