Pros
The pros are the experience. You learn a lot and the work is rewarding. You help children who are abused and help a family overcome some of the worst times of their life. Children you are not able to reunify with their parents you help find forever homes and are with them on the day they are adopted.
Cons
This work is not for the faint of heart you literally are working with children that have been abused or neglected. When you arrive at a families door for the first time you are usually not welcomed as they believe you are their for the sole purpose to remove their children. I will let you know that removing children is not the main focus of the job and that only happens in the most severe cases. However you have to establish coping skills or this job will eat you alive. There was times I worked 35 hours by Tuesday because of after hours on the weekend.
- Current Employee, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
Decent benefits, ASRS retirement, a job where you truly do a lot.
Cons
ASRS retirement is mandatory 12% taken out, and it is a job where you truly do a lot. It is a high stress job where you won't recognize anyone in the office after a few years from the high turnover, where the right manager or supervisor can be the difference between hating your job and enjoying it.

Pros
They are willing to let employees move to different roles that might fit them better.

There is no work life balance, as expected. Management has been out of the field for too long and can become biased and policy pushers. The supervisors can make the job difficult if they’re not approachable.
