I have been working at Arizona Department of Corrections full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent pay lots of OT. Job security. Excellent amount of hours for vacations and sick time.

    Cons

There is no pension for new employees. You get a 401A retirement plan which is the exact same thing as a 401K. Lots of people where hired thinking they would get the old pension called CORP. Lots of favoritism. If you are a female you get to do less than half of the work for the same pay.

I have been working at Arizona Department of Corrections full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay can be good if you do OT, competitive benefits package, camaraderie... If you know what you're doing, this job should be cake 90% of the time. Great place to earn LE experience.

    Cons

Always running normal ops with ridiculous low staffing, which can lead to very unsafe situations. Negative environment most of the time. No work/life balance if you want to make decent money (you have to work at least 20 hours OT per week) low standards for promoting to supervisor, which can lead to any dummy being a Sgt without them even knowing how to run a yard.
