I have been working at Arizona Department of Environmental Quality full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Agency is constantly trying to improve and become more efficient, employees are passionate as well and the environment is real friendly

    Cons

A state agency is resource limited when it comes to immediate changes and new projectsa fm of course bureaucracy is there, not as bad but still a lot of people decisions matters.

    Pros

Co workers , Management , customer service , working outside .

    Cons

Salary , angry customers , working outside, expected to do too much and be perfect for very little pay .

    Advice to Management

Management needs to take better care of its employees. Employees are grossly underpaid but expected to do way too much.

I worked at Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (More than a year)

    Pros

Great state medical benefits, good pension if you can afford the withdrawal each paycheck.

    Cons

Mistrust of management. Management pushes axioms to employees, but don't follow them. Many meetings are a waste of time, preventing you from doing your job.

    Advice to Management

Cut back on unnecessary meetings. Practice what you preach to employees to build trust.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Arizona Department of Environmental Quality full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Protecting Arizona's environment and public health.
    A pension system, rather than a 401k.
    A merit-based bonus system.

    Cons

Despite the constant lip service they’ve paid to Lean Management principles and bottom-up problem-solving, ADEQ has become far more autocratic during the tenure of Henry Darwin and Misael Cabreras.
Institutional knowledge is no longer valued, and many long term employees feel that they’re being targeted for replacement.
In the name of streamlining the department, internal processes have been modified so heavily that they're becoming overly bureaucratic again.

    Advice to Management

    Let Lean Management work.
Requiring each employee to produce a particular number of process improvement ideas per quarter is not the same as responding when an employee spontaneously suggests a way to improve the system.

Fun, relaxed environment to work in.
    Exec team is amazing.
Culture and mission that is worth believing in.

    Cons

    IT manager was untrustworthy.
    No room for advancement.
    Some nights and weekends.

    Advice to Management

Get a new IT manager. That is a great shop to work at.

    Pros

New equipment, never any shortage of money for projects. Coworkers are excellent!

    Cons

Leadership says one thing then does another. Was a great place to work for a long time until new supervisor brought morale to the bottom of the barrel.

    Advice to Management

Grow a backbone and support your people and not roll over. Watch carefully and see why people who have been there for years are leaving.
