    Pros

I was fortunate to have a great group of people to work with and tasks were as described.

    Cons

    Pros

Depending on the department you worked in people were for the most part friendly. Everyone does their work very independently. However, when you reach out for help there's always someone there willing to lend a helping hand. Learned a lot from those around me that were willing to engage in conversation with me. You will learn a lot.

    Cons

The organization does not take change very well. There are very strong political ties to the county that do not allow for drastic change to be easy. There is a lot of potential here.

    Advice to Management

    Be more open to change.

I worked at Arlington County full-time

    Pros

If you want a job where you're in at 8:30/9 a.m. and out by 4:30/5 p.m., this is it. They also offer a nice benefits package for health care, gym/wellness benefits, an on-site health clinic, free flu shots, retirement/pension, etc. Most people are friendly and nice to work with (so long as they aren't one of the lazy ones skimming by on their cushy government job and clocking out after lunch/going MIA with no repercussions...yes, this actually happens!). Depending on your job you may also get a free work iPhone and iPad.

    Cons

First off, you're required to produce your pay stubs before they'll offer you a job. They claim they can only offer at max a 10% increase in salary from what you're currently making, so if you are already underpaid, you're screwed. Pay increases from there are now based on merit (which is better than it used to be) but the step increases are minimal so it will take you a long time to work up to the salary you should be making. People rarely leave, so trying to work your way up title-wise is also difficult. As far as management is concerned, some are good, some are complete pushovers and cast a blind eye to habitual rule breakers. There are often times people working against you from trying to move up if they feel threatened in their position. Training programs are hard to gain entry to unless you're on the decision maker's good side for your department. Myself (and my coworkers) experienced multiple situations where we were on the receiving end of comments about our age/gender.

    Advice to Management

Rethink your HR policies, and the people are appointing to these positions embedded within the department.

Good vacation accrual and work-life balance

    Cons

Micro-managing; Work-from-home only reserved for senior staff; Asked for pay stubs just to considered for the position (BEWARE); low salary and meager increases offered despite a considerable budget.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge that the team is a group of adults. Not children.
