Terrible Culture
Feb 22, 2023 - Covid-19 Contact Tracer in Arlington, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The only pro to this job was that they pay was nice.
Cons
Upon being hired, I was told I'd have the same benefits as a full-time employee. Then found out that was not the case. Benefits were finally given after working there for a year. No one ever knew who the HR person was for "temp" employees. We were not acknowledged by the county for coming in when they needed help and then quickly discarded without much warning. There was no opportunity for growth or transition into being a county employee. People who have worked there a long time have bad attitudes and no work ethic and are basically impossible to fire.

Pros
Great co-workers, creative atmosphere, and very good benefits. The community is very much invested in their libraries and it shows.
Cons
The organization can be siloed. It would be nice if the administration listened to their customer facing staff in order to create a better relationship between management and staff. Managers are left in the middle as they can't really advocate for their employees but hand down the directives from the administration. Work life balance is necessary and although it's talked about by the administration, it is hard to just take a "day off" or mental day. As a staff member, you think about your co-workers and whether you are leaving them in a lurch if you take a day off. As much as I love libraries, I think the pressure of having all locations open for 6 to 7 days a week has taken a toll on all staff. Unfortunately, people are leaving and the morale is very low. I hope it changes in the future.

Good benefits, high emphasis on quality of care
Cons
Unrealistic expectations for upper management. The pay is not competitive compared to similar positions in private practice.

Great place to work
Mar 24, 2023 - COVID-19 Response Coordinator in Arlington, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The complications of being a contractor working on a pandemic are significant, but even as a contractor, I always felt that leadership had my best interests in mind. They provided opportunities for advancement and compensated us fairly for our work.
Cons
Leadership could have been more organized, but again, this was a first-of-its-kind pandemic response.
- Former Employee★★★★★
Pros
Average benefits and holidays off
Cons
I worked for the Financial Management Bureau which is a total dump. Leadership has been there for a century. Leadership styles are a bunch of bullies. This place is filled with beuacracy. No room to grow or think outside the box.

Punitive management culture who overwork and undervalue their employees
Mar 16, 2023 - Therapist in Arlington, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Stable employment, good pension and health care benefits
Cons
Clinical staff are over regulated, under paid, and not genuinely respected by management. Leadership is impaired and hostage to the bureaucratic structure.
