I have been working at Armstrong Teasdale full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Laid-back working style. Good balance between work and family.
Nice colleagues and good reputation in the profession.
Strong clientele (for a mid-west firm) and some very good lawyers who are serving them.

    Cons

Small-minded and short-sighted management. Being conservative in management is not a bad thing but complacency is.
Firm is growing old. Too many partners and too few associates. Young talents keep drifting.

    Advice to Management

Look at the big picture and pay attention to the future and the world, not just the mid-west area.

I have been working at Armstrong Teasdale full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Love who I work for and with. Have met many great friends there.

    Cons

The Human Resources Department is completely unapproachable. They have no idea what the staff does on a daily basis and they don't want to know. Morale is SUPER LOW!

    Advice to Management

The staff is a huge backbone of the company. Stop treating them as herded cattle. Get some "Human" back in Human Resources.

I worked at Armstrong Teasdale full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Originally, I loved the independent responsibilities, the office layout, and the compensation. Unfortunately, all of that changed after a large portion of another law firm merged with AT.

    Cons

They gave no respect to their current employees and just let the new staff come in and take over, regardless of lacking in education and experience. It was clearly all about the money & clients the law firm brought with them, which caused a lot of bitterness, and decline in moral.

    Advice to Management

Don't always give attention to the squeaky wheel! The people who get their job done & don't complain are the ones that deserve the positive attention.

    Pros

New office and equipment, nice people t o work with

    Cons

No Secretarial support, other than the Team players and they are busy with their own jobs.

    Advice to Management

Need to hire float secretaries to help secretaries. One of your Secretaries will have a stroke going at the pace you want them to go. % people to one is not going to worik

I have been working at Armstrong Teasdale full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Partners and senior associates who are the top in their fields in almost every area of business-related law (corporate, litigation, employment, labor, patent, IP, etc. etc.). Great mentoring throughout. In most area of the firm, collegial atmosphere. Co-workers are, all around, good people. Also, the firm recently raised its compensation and now equals or exceeds all of the other big firms in town.
The firm also has an associate bonus program with multiple possible bonuses: merit, productivity (billable hours) and a % of business generated. And that's in addition to top-of-market base salaries which went into effect in recent months.

    Cons

Like any big firm, productivity and billable hours are emphasized.

    Pros

The firm is well-known because it used to be good and used to be managed by good people, not the greedy pigs calling the shots now.

    Cons

Paid WAY under market. All associates leave after the first year because they can be paid double by any competing law firm.

I worked at Armstrong Teasdale full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Big clients, interesting cases, friendly co-workers, on-site CLE, encouraged to do business development

    Cons

Constant reminder of insufficient hours including weekly department-wide meetings admonishing associates to increase billing. Repeated warnings re billable hours cast a pall over working at the firm. During my year there, attorney departure was a weekly occurrence. Within a year after my own departure, about half a dozen associates I knew also followed suit.

    Advice to Management

No need to constantly remind associates of their billable goals.

I worked at Armstrong Teasdale (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very good benefits, Kansas City office has a small office atmosphere while also very supported with software, support staff, etc.

    Cons

Office manager is not there often which leads to a feeling of not being supported when situations arise.

    Advice to Management

Office manager needs to be there full time.

Great benefits. Laid back. Nice people to work with.

    Cons

Stressful in finance during the end of the year. A lot of changes are being made currently.

    Advice to Management

Keep people who work hard and trim the fat.
