I worked at Armstrong World Industries

    Pros

Employees are hard working and more than willing to help one another. Everyone I've met is friendly and polite. Flexible hours. Interesting work.

    Cons

Making ceiling tiles is more interesting and engaging than I'd thought, but at the end of the day it is a ceilings manufacturing company.

I worked at Armstrong World Industries full-time for more than a year

    Pros

My co-workers were great below management. Benefits decent. Pay decent. Not much else to say. Lots of people there one day and gone the next.

    Cons

Job is not stable. People treated differently. No training. Very cliquey. If you don't fit in your gone. No warning. If you value job security don't bother.

    Advice to Management

Stop pushing out young people or their won't be a company left.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries

    Pros

They allow for personal time off - I had some family issues going on and they were very accomodating

    Cons

Do not like change - Management team is not technical and do not spend time on the floor. Leadership team is a closed loop entity.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your people - here from the floor not only from the managers

I worked at Armstrong World Industries for more than a year

    Pros

Loved the face paced environment. Early team meeting, identify problems and challenges of the day, and off you go.

    Cons

Location in St Helens is not ideal. NW opportunities are limited outside of this plant.

    Advice to Management

Consider adapting more tech tools. Keep up the team environment!

I worked at Armstrong World Industries for less than a year

    Pros

Was given a lot of freedom as an intern, but at the same time the management was not available when needed. It was a great experience for someone new to the field, even if it was the knowledge of what you would not want to do after graduation.

    Cons

I worked in a manufacturing plant that was getting pretty worn down. The other people there did not seem to care much about work or performance. no clear progression at the company

I worked at Armstrong World Industries full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A good place to cut your teeth on the fundamentals of manufacturing. They've been around for a long time and know their market, their customers and their business. Good opportunity for hands-on engineering.

    Cons

Very high turnover rate among engineers. The pay isn't great and there is very little (if any) recognition for a job well done. Expectations are high but available resources low. It's very old tech, so don't expect to deal with any new or cutting edge technologies, equipment or processes. Politics play a major role and managers often put personal feelings about an employee ahead of objective job performance. Senior management/leadership...

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring internally for senior management and leadership. Look outside; look further and higher. Be open to new ideas and new paths. Don't rely on the 'Old Boys Club' mentality.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries

    Pros

The best reason to work for Armstrong, especially if you have recently graduated from college, is that they are more than willing to hire recent college graduates. It is a great experience and resume builder. This company gets young employees as involved as the employee is willing to allow. Armstrong values knowledge and will invest in the employees to make sure they have the best training and skills needed to succeed....

    Cons

A downside of working at Armstrong is the fact that the manufacturing facilities are unionized. This can create somewhat of a hostile environment, and can hinder the company's ability to improve at a fast rate.

    Advice to Management

The only advice I can give to Senior Management is to value the opinions of their employees.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries

    Pros

As a project engineer in a smaller plant setting, I am exposed all our manufacturing business units. This gives a broad range of experiences - - - no two projects are the same - - - this keeps me going! Also there are opportunities to get involved in other roles for safety improvement/leadership, facilitating a plant module or mentoring less experienced engineers - - - involvement in these roles gives both a sense of...

    Cons

The projects cover a broad variety of disciplines and areas, but not so much depth. Also, by virtue of the nature of the business, the projects are not 'high tech' - - - automation projects involve some nifty equipment nonetheless. Even though most people prefer to 'abandon' the books after leaving school, I like projects that challenge me to go back to the books to solve an intricate engineering problem. Meanwhile this...
