I worked at Armstrong World Industries full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very thoughtful about employees, policies that are pro-employee, lost of history available from other employees,

    Cons

No drive, no killer instinct, dont give employee ownership of stock.... its really a pension fund that runs a company, rather then the other way around...

    Advice to Management

try to get employees with 50 years of experience to think like its 2020 rather than 1970

I worked at Armstrong World Industries for less than a year

    Pros

Receptive to new ideas and focused on eliminating status quo within the department leadership and business processes to ensure continued growth and competitive advantage.

    Cons

Use of accronyms to describe meetings which impacts understanding during conversations with other departments and leadership team members not familiar with the term.

    Advice to Management

Continue focus on Change Management as a way to instill drive toward quality production and asset integrity throughout the organization and critical suppliers.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some really nice people working hard to earn a living and support each other. However leadership hasn't grasped that you cannot continue to survive as a commodity distributor business with 19th century marketing!

    Cons

Splitting flooring & ceilings will only expose what poor shape this business is really in. You can't call yourself a successful "global" company when the European and Asian business are a mess and being propped up by NA. Senior leadership are a "network" of idiots, driving numbers and giving lip service to cultural values! Leaders in this company do the sound bites but have nothing between their ears that suggests they...

    Advice to Management

As many have already said, this is a great company destroyed by senior executives who are out of their depth. When are companies going to realise that the GE style of leadership works only at GE. Armstrongs culture or product is NOT GE so why focus on decks and numbers when trends are clearly showing you are killing the business by your consistent cost cutting initiatives. You've probably already completed the 1000th...

I worked at Armstrong World Industries

      Pros

I actually worked at Armstrong for 28 years, moving from administrative position into Marketing and Management. It truly was a great company to work for. Good compensation and great benefits.

      Cons

Not just Armstrong but the corporate environment across the board has evolved (in somewhat of a negative way) over the years. What once was a very employee-focused company with tangible access to leadership to voice concerns is no longer.

I worked at Armstrong World Industries full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Big company. Great benefits. Company car, laptop, printer, credit card, gas card. Flexible schedule, pretty good pay.

      Cons

Top heavy. Too many managers and too much red tape to get anything accomplished. Field reps are not empowered and company is run from inside out. Field reps ideas and needs fall on deaf ears. They fail to pay their loyal long standing employees average to above average for their positions. Other manufacturers trust Armstrong's training but know they can recruit because of the lack of salary they pay. So many conference...

      Advice to Management

Empower your sales people to actually sell. Pay your loyal employees more so you can keep good people instead of bringing in new people and re-training. Stop looking at your spreadsheet and listen to the people in each region as to what they need. The channels are not working. No one knows what is going on in each and no one is working together for a common goal. Pay commissions.
