I have been working at Armstrong World Industries

    Pros

It's pretty easy work. In general the expectations are low and there's lots of opportunities to not work really hard. I can schedule a trip just about anywhere and no one really cares. I get lots of frequent flyer miles and the expectations are pretty low. It's hard to imagine leaving and actually having to work for a living.

    Cons

Pay is just average and the upper management is always looking to cut benefits. They eliminated the pension several years ago and the health benefits are terrible. Hope you don't get any real dental problems, since the insurance they provide (you pay $15/month too) sucks. Upper management is pretty stupid and loves the six sigma BS. A former GM guy is at the helm and he is a real idiot. He's hated by most people...

    Advice to Management

Treat the salaried people with respect and maybe we could work a little harder and put up some good results. Stop cutting our benefits and giving the farm away to the hourly people. Fire all the HR people and hire some HR professionals, not just up through the ranks IEs.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Used to promote from within. Used to providing good low cost Health Plans for employees. Used to have better products then competitors. Used to be #1 in new product features and benefits. Used to have the best trained sales teams. Management used to have excellent relationships with employees. Distributers used to like working with Armstrong.

    Cons

Now just a " Me Too " company. No special reason to work there unless you just need a job with no future. Competitive companies have now surpassed Armstrong's ability to deliver products, services, and more newer contemporary products for the various markets. Most of the outside hires for managers jobs now filled by people with less qualifications then existing internal employees. Today, Mohawk and Shaw Industries have...
