    Pros

Employees are hard working and more than willing to help one another. Everyone I've met is friendly and polite.

    Flexible hours.

    Interesting work.

    Cons

Making ceiling tiles is more interesting and engaging than I'd thought, but at the end of the day it is a ceilings manufacturing company.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good company that does good work in the community and beyond. Sustainability and safety are key ingredients to their success. There is opportunity for significant longevity at the company - I've never worked at a company where so many people have been here for their entire career - many for 20+, a few for 40+. Armstrong encourages personal and professional growth and works very well with the willing. Prove you're willing and they will go to the ends of the earth for you!

    Cons

Sometimes this company gets mired in conformity. This would be a truly stellar place to work if they truly valued differences beyond the basics of race, gender, preference, etc (which they do value greatly). Oh, the amazing things this company could do if they weren't so hooked on everyone fitting into the traditional corporate mold. One example: if you are awesome at your job but your style of dress is off the beaten path (but still professional enough), you will be met with some resistance. Shouldn't have to work harder than the traditional dresser to prove ability and worth.

    Advice to Management

They're doing pretty well. I would say just continue to encourage people to express their professional dreams and goals, and help them find ways to get there. ALL people who manage others should be sent through the Essentials of Leadership program. This will help them help their direct reports identify their career aspirations, and train people to have a broader definition of diversity, one that includes life experience and style. This will combat old school thinking that limits company potential.

    Pros

I actually worked at Armstrong for 28 years, moving from administrative position into Marketing and Management. It truly was a great company to work for. Good compensation and great benefits.

    Cons

Not just Armstrong but the corporate environment across the board has evolved (in somewhat of a negative way) over the years. What once was a very employee-focused company with tangible access to leadership to voice concerns is no longer.

I worked at Armstrong World Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits for sale individuals (ie car, cell phone, bi-annual bonus, etc.)

    Cons

They struggle with fair market compensation. Most of the sales people are making average or below the average salary.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to focus on hiring the right people for each unique territory. Also, reassess compensation.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

As the company splits into two separate companies, there are a lot of positions being created.

    Cons

No assurance that when the dust settles, all these new positions will be needed going forward.

    Advice to Management

Stop over-communicating and focus on the main strategy and how employees play a role in it through split and beyond.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Provide training to stay current but experts professional level skills on hire. Few entry level positions.

    Cons

Company is splitting and although they are hiring, nobody is sure how it will all work out and if all the positions will really be needed under the new structure of two separate companies.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees regarding the split.

I worked at Armstrong World Industries (More than a year)

    Pros

Loved the face paced environment. Early team meeting, identify problems and challenges of the day, and off you go.

    Cons

Location in St Helens is not ideal. NW opportunities are limited outside of this plant.

    Advice to Management

Consider adapting more tech tools. Keep up the team environment!

I worked at Armstrong World Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities for exposure. Leadership approachable, and genuinely cares about your development. Great people at all levels. Never felt like i couldn't talk to anyone in the leadership chain, with out fear of retaliation.

    Cons

Senior Executives so intent on financial engineering, not setting up the company for long term success. Also, there seemed to be a lack of willingness to hold middle management accountable in the home office (some worked hard, some worked for themselves). IT systems (Back and Front Office) a mess.

    Advice to Management

Get you IT systems and management straightened out.

I worked at Armstrong World Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

With a large company - was easy to mix with people who had similar skills. flexible hours at times when needed. Salary was very in line with industry

    Cons

at times because of the size, it just takes too long to feel like you've acommplished something. at times it could feel like many people were trying to do the same thing (lack of communication and organization)
