    Pros

They allow for personal time off - I had some family issues going on and they were very accomodating

    Cons

Do not like change - Management team is not technical and do not spend time on the floor. Leadership team is a closed loop entity.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your people - here from the floor not only from the managers

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are great with this company. Allow for a great start to a career. Allow to work from home and Manage your territory. Bonus is paid 2 time a year and allows for you to make up if you missed the target at the beginning of the year.

    Cons

Heavy on Salary + low on Bonus that based off of a target budget. Budget is high however there are a lot of factors that are figured into a full bonus. The sales should be a salary + commission.

    Advice to Management

Outside sales should be Salary + Commission.

    Pros

Support from all levels of the company. Opportunities for growth. Safety is as important as productivity.

    Cons

Restructuring resulted in plant closure and loss of local opportunity for continued employment.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Fancy corporate campus. Nice cafeteria.

    Cons

Recent upper management has run this company into the ground and allowed it to be robbed by TPG. Armstrong used to be the place to work and raise your family by but the way thing are heading the new "Armstrong Flooring" will be sold or out of business within the decade. Management blames employees for company not making money yet all upper management are college pals ready to take what they can get and run.

    Advice to Management

Listen to and respect your employees, it will repay itself.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great name brand and strong market position for products. Company has been around for a long time, and is well-established leader in the industry. Pay and benefits are at or above average for company size.

    Cons

Values used to mean a lot, but politics and managing up have completely taken over the culture. Crazy times currently as the company is splitting into two separate companies - ceilings and flooring. Both "new" companies will be ripe for a takeover - either by competition or private equity. It's crazy right now with the amount of change and uncertainty going on. If you're someone who likes to shake things up and can stand chaos, then you won't mind. If you're a little more structured and like to know what you're doing, then I would avoid for the next six months to a year.

    Advice to Management

Invite the truth from everyone in your organization. Make realistic plans and don't bet everything on a long-shot working perfectly.

I have been working at Armstrong World Industries full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good company that does good work in the community and beyond. Sustainability and safety are key ingredients to their success. There is opportunity for significant longevity at the company - I've never worked at a company where so many people have been here for their entire career - many for 20+, a few for 40+. Armstrong encourages personal and professional growth and works very well with the willing. Prove you're willing and they will go to the ends of the earth for you!

    Cons

Sometimes this company gets mired in conformity. This would be a truly stellar place to work if they truly valued differences beyond the basics of race, gender, preference, etc (which they do value greatly). Oh, the amazing things this company could do if they weren't so hooked on everyone fitting into the traditional corporate mold. One example: if you are awesome at your job but your style of dress is off the beaten path (but still professional enough), you will be met with some resistance. Shouldn't have to work harder than the traditional dresser to prove ability and worth.

    Advice to Management

They're doing pretty well. I would say just continue to encourage people to express their professional dreams and goals, and help them find ways to get there. ALL people who manage others should be sent through the Essentials of Leadership program. This will help them help their direct reports identify their career aspirations, and train people to have a broader definition of diversity, one that includes life experience and style. This will combat old school thinking that limits company potential.

    Pros

Some really nice people working hard to earn a living and support each other. However leadership hasn't grasped that you cannot continue to survive as a commodity distributor business with 19th century marketing!

    Cons

Splitting flooring & ceilings will only expose what poor shape this business is really in. You can't call yourself a successful "global" company when the European and Asian business are a mess and being propped up by NA.
Senior leadership are a "network" of idiots, driving numbers and giving lip service to cultural values! Leaders in this company do the sound bites but have nothing between their ears that suggests they actually have a clue how to run a business. I fear complete meltdown once Rockwool establish a real presence in NA.
Management will only groom yes men, so when you surround yourself with yes men the writing is on the wall (shame you don't do walls, there might be profit in it).

    Advice to Management

As many have already said, this is a great company destroyed by senior executives who are out of their depth. When are companies going to realise that the GE style of leadership works only at GE. Armstrongs culture or product is NOT GE so why focus on decks and numbers when trends are clearly showing you are killing the business by your consistent cost cutting initiatives. You've probably already completed the 1000th cut and will soon bleed out. RIP

    Pros

The company as a whole is impressive, always work to do, fast paced environment, good employees to work with. Happy hours are a plus.

    Cons

Management oversees, but does not help.
Little to no training in the Architectural Specialties department.
Gives no verbal or written warnings prior to termination.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect. Help them if they ask. Give them feedback, both positive and negative. Provide more training.
