    Pros

you can get assigned to work with the troops overseas and be surrounded by heros. Working with third county nationals and learning different cultures is very enlighting.

    Cons

In the same light as how cool it is to work for heros the management overseas are the exact opposite, complete morons. They seem to have a "hate the American" that if armed one might wonder if they would shoot them as terriorists try too.

    Advice to Management

Leadership is not just a word it should be what managment should live by. How can a company filled with so many former soldiers do business in such a poor fashion?

    Pros

    1) You get the full blown customer service experience.
    2) Good cash handling experience if you want to go into banking.
    3) It's a pretty laid back job if you're just looking to make a little money.
    4) Most customers are really friendly and help to pass the time.

    Cons

    1) You make only $.05 above minimum which is okay if you don't have any bills to pay.
    2) Management is not considerate of your school schedule and will most likely schedule you to work days that you are not available.
    3) Supervisors do not train you well and it is very easy to get written up.
    4) Some of the items are not priced right and the cashier is excepted to fix it when it is hardlines or softlines job to do that.
    5) Supervisors like to gossip a lot, just keep to yourself and you should be fine.
    6) The Pxtra can be a bit boring because a lack of customers if you get assigned over there.

    Advice to Management

Please be nicer to your cashiers, they are human too and keep AAFES running.

Management needs to understand that in this day and economy people are getting more education and should be supportive of that. Don't write up employee for standing up to managers who cuss them out. Bullying is a sad situation among kids and teens, don't bring that into the adult world.

    Pros

The end of the work day.
    Paid training.
    Overtime if you want it.
1 hr. breaks if you work more than half a day.

    Cons

Management has no idea what is going on with the employees.
    Employees create clicks.
They give you a hard time when you ask to be off.
They don't want to recognize your potential for upward mobility for fear of you taking their job.
Emplyees that have been there for a long time are actually running the show.
    Entry-level pay is a joke.

    Advice to Management

    Stop wasting government money.
    Listen to your employees.
Create an environment where new employees can give you honest feedback.
Respect your employees and don't treat them like they are insignificant.

I worked at Army and Air Force Exchange full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you begin your career here, you can retire early. Ambitious politic-savvy players may start a side business and benefit from government contracts by knowing the right insiders.

    Cons

If you come on board and try to get things up to speed and into the same decade as current technology, you will be labeled a person who makes waves. It's a place where long timers just want the status quo and change is looked at as hostile action. It's a popularity contest with little or nothing to do with skill set. Civilian run organization has adopted military chain of command mentality. Never ask why. Do as you are told regardless of business value logic.

    Advice to Management

I'm not sure what to say, as my experience can be summed up by the words of the in house department for discrimination rep telling me "I've seen it happen before and it will continue to happen." With DoD funding, no one can go up against that and ride it out to win.

I have been working at Army and Air Force Exchange part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get to have a lunch break with two breaks. Also most times you can have a peaceful lunch and watch what you want on television.

    Cons

The environment is terrible. You have to stand on your feet most of the time and there is no time to think. It gets worse everyday.

    Advice to Management

Treat staff nicer and manage your employees better.
