Consistently short-staffed, standards and work load set high for such a small staff, lack of communication between day and night shift

I worked at Army and Air Force Exchange part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Health insurance only if part time and full time. ALWAYS tasks and work to do. Occasionally really good sales. Awesome way to meet people all over the world. Good way to build skills and learn new things. Good bonuses at least twice a year but news flash... It gets taxed so not on a separate check like other companies do for their employees. If you're looking for 2nd job its for you but don't expect weekends off depending on what you do. You must be flexible

    Cons

HUGE TURNOVER RATE Doesn't pay well at all. You can be there for several years or more and still make less then civilian jobs that pay well for less work and still have good benefits. LOTS of favoritism management doesn't hire based on skills or experience they hire if they like you and if you don't disagree with them especially if you're an inside applicant. No room for advancement its not that easy to move up..again its a favoritism thing. Supervisor& management needs complete overhaul they really don't care about employees never want to support needs or concerns they feel if you have an issue with what's going on you can leave. Don't appreciate or reward for work always busy looking and waiting for you to mess up and do wrong.. Not recommended if single parent your hours will get cut frequently especially during slow season or if they feel you're not performing well

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees... Have more Dept or employee meetings listening to concerns. If you want customers to leave happy take care of your people.. Its just that simple. Pay attention to what good they do how they well they work together pay attention to their needs understand and listen to input you never know how much you can benefit from it. Stop always looking for negatives. APPRECIATE THEM!
