I worked at Art Institute of Chicago full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits and pay. Free admission to practically every museum around. Free tuition for students of SAIC. Full health and dental if your salary can afford it.

    Cons

Was treated extremely poorly by management. Was fired with no advance notice for a violation that I did not commit. When I requested to state my case, they accused me of lying. Extremely cruel and aggressive towards lower-level employees. I was having panic attacks on a regular basis while employed here.
On top of this, sales in the Museum Shop are commission based. They want you to make extremely unreasonable sales goals off of magnets and t-shirts. The work environment is a toxic level of competitive.

    Advice to Management

    Grow some empathy.

Some of the old perks are disappearing, but it's a volunteer gig

I have been working at Art Institute of Chicago part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Access to state of the art facilities. Some very enjoyable peers and creative people.

    Cons

I worked within three different departments at SAIC and under qualified people held management positions in every one of them. Positions are heavily promoted from within and external applicants have little chance of getting an interview. I found the overall work environment to be split between highly enjoyable peers to extremely caddy colleagues. Salaries are very low unless you can break into a top position. I think this leads to the toxic office environment because employees can become very competitive.

I have been working at Art Institute of Chicago full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great community and environment, supportive, access to facilities on campus, great benefits package, lots of PTO, tuition remission if you want to take classes, very conscious of inclusiveness. LGBTQ friendly

    Cons

Most admin positions feel underpaid for the level of work and required experience. Depending on department you work in, it can be difficult to use all your PTO

    Pros

Low pressure, friendly environment, very flexible hours and person-in-charge is pretty easy going. Most co-workers are young and energetic.

    Cons

Works assigned were mostly chores, not much room for learning or self-improvement. Pay is relatively low, and most positions are unpaid or only for-credit.

    Pros

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago is a tolerant, flexible, and dynamic workplace. Teaching assistantships for graduate students can include teaching new courses, or grading papers for courses already in the curriculum.

    Cons

So far I can see no downside to working at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I thoroughly enjoy working here.
