    Pros

To work for a leader in the industry with hands-down the best mentors in the business is a gift. We are encouraged bring fresh new ideas to the team and are recognized for our successes and coached through our misses. Overall, it is fast-paced, exciting and rewarding.

    Cons

Fast-paced can be a pro or a con depending on your point of view. Some people thrive in an ever-evolving workplace, and some are overwhelmed. This is not a place for the weak or unmotivated.

    Advice to Management

Find the best way to funnel information from the top out to the team so that everyone is singing the same tune. Trust your staff and let them play their position.

I worked at Art Van Furniture part-time

    Pros

Paid training, excellent networking opportunity, and offers a handfull of soft skills you can take with you.

    Cons

Like many sales positions, this is commission-based. Although you receive a weekly check at am hourly rate, this is deducted from your commissions. Also, managers expet EVERY customer to result in a sale between the time they enter and when they leave. Otherwise, expect to spilt your commission.

Older players emphasize how great they are, but don't fully explain their challenges or struggles....you REALLY have to have great salesmanship skills to thrive here.

Hours are very difficult for people with families.

    Advice to Management

Longer time shadowing than classroom training will be very beneficial. Pair new hires with sales people who have been with the company for at least a year (provide incentives for those trainers to offer their help).

I worked at Art Van Furniture full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There arent many pros if you're not in sales

    Cons

You are not valued unless you are in sales. Encouraged to lie to customers by managenent. Talked down to by customers, sales staff, and managers. Ridiculous hours. No accountability for anyone except office staff

    Advice to Management

Respect your office staff. Hold all staff accountable. Dont keep your underpaid office staff there three hours after closing waiting for a commissioned sales person to close a deal. Stick to your policies so there is no confusion as to what the policies actually are.
