I worked at Art Van Furniture full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

High earnings potential, good training, solid corporate culture.

    Cons

High-pressure sales techniques, pressure to push extended warranties, schedule leaves little personal time. Holidays and weekends are the busy times and time off is discouraged on those days. Managers really work hard to help employees succeed. If you make the grade, you can make a reasonable income.

    Advice to Management

Overstaffing really frustrates sales staff, especially on slow days. Since this is a commission job, if sales are slow, the associates suffer financially from the overstaffing.

I have been working at Art Van Furniture full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not really want to say cuz they will mislead you to thinking it's a good job. But for honesty sake, basically you can make a LITTLE more than working at target/kroger. Also your lunch time isn't overly monitored.

    Cons

I'm going to try be concise of the lies that goes on here. All stores run terribly, my specific store to definitely stay away from was the one on hall road by lakeside mall. Worked there for 2 years and was one of the best employees. Only did it for having a job with 2 year lifespan on my resume. Was hard to go through and stay happy.
    * 50+ salesman, managers played about 4-5 favorites and made sure using unlawful ways that big sales went to them.
    * If you didn't kiss managements butt HARD you would be fired eventually, seen over 20 people get fired in 2 years, and over 75 get hired(about 5 people a month). You barely create your own success, they create your success, and their chose people are already chosen.
    * They did many hard lies, one of them was, in training you are trained on outdoor furniture and told you can sell it, (it's the biggest money maker). The management during summer only let about 5 people sell it and they worked for Art Van for 5+ years. When I sold a huge deal to a family member they raged at me and almost fired me for not giving my own family to one of the people allowed to sell it.
I can go on but to be honest.. I dont need to say more if you have a brain. Stay away!

    Advice to Management

Can't dig yourself out of this one, advice to ceo --- get new management and learn how to interview for, and train for good managers.. ooh wait, a lot of this stems from ceos...

    Pros

Very Competitive, management system is very supportive, and you can earn great commission if you are really motivated to succeed. You have to be focused in the game, so as to make sure you meet your monthly sales goals. You are assigned a mentor to guide you on how to go about your day to day sales. Working here is very flexible, no pressure, but what the company expects from you is meeting your monthly sales goals and selling higher, delivering higher, and for your own benefits too.

    Cons

Commission based monthly. some sales reps can be very controlling, if you aren't self-driven.

I have been working at Art Van Furniture full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Guaranteed 40(+) hours a week, decent pay, decent benefits, low chance of write ups, good for late comers

    Cons

Dirty, unhealthy work environment, unlit areas, poor safety procedures, very poor management, contradicting expectations, viewed as just a number, very physical, underplays work injuries, favoritism, not family friendly/school friendly, little notice on overtime, illusion of advancement, low raises

    Advice to Management

Think of your employees as people. Listen to what they have to say instead of ignoring them
