I have been working at Art Van Furniture full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay, flexible hours, ability to meet my needs as an employee and at home. The organization truly cares for its over 5500 employees.

    Cons

Would love to see tuition reimbursement. Also some of its practices are outdated. Part of that has to do with the growing pains of going from a family run company to an national company.

I have been working at Art Van Furniture part-time

    Pros

As long as you do your job, which you should if it involves commission, you should be fine. The management is decent enough, and the pay rate is great as long as you are selling.

    Cons

The hours are long, and you need to work every weekend which leaves little time for a personal life. Depending on the day, and how many people they need working you can put in a 7 - 12 hour work day.

I worked at Art Van Furniture full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the people were great. It feels like a family with the sales staff. Overtime was always welcomed if you asked for it.

    Cons

Management was not good. Some people were moved up at the wrong time- like after being reported by customers for being rude. Hr did not listen to emails or even respond.
Long hours. Hard to get time off if needed.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to who is in what position. If a store is losing multiple employees at once take a look at the management. Make sure you appreciate those who work hard.

    Pros

Ok pay and better than average companies, nice showrooms, profit sharing, and 401 k available medical insurance, dental, vision ok.

    Cons

No work life balance, very long hours, you get treated like a number, unfriendly, militaristic, and micro mngt style. No loyalty to hardworking individuals or any one!

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with appreciation and show them more respect. Make life work balance changes in your policy. Make changes to your micromanagement style, and stop showing favoritism!

I have been working at Art Van Furniture full-time

    Pros

Great healthcare benefits; Incentive programs with financial payouts; 401K available

    Cons

Poor communication between departments as well as within each department itself. Management is often inexperienced other than working at this company. Not much room for growth. Lack of empathy from management. Poor work/life balance. A lot of "mind games" played by employees and management which often don't become apparent until you are already losing the game. VERY HIGH TURN OVER RATE both voluntarily and involuntarily. Unorganized training program, even in orientation incorrect information is given. Seems that management focuses on the wrong things and therefore major issues do not actually get solved. Management often functions as "the inner circle" and often protects their own rather than trying to assist each other in growing to be more empathetic and effective. Unprofessional working environment but only those on the 'naughty list' seem to be punished or coached. Low pay rate for the abuse you must accept from both by internal and external customers.

    Advice to Management

TAKE SENSITIVITY TRAINING!!!!! Improve upon hiring/candidate screening knowledge to lessen turnover rate and dissatisfaction with existing employees. Behave and dress more professionally.
