Now that the acquisition has been completed, some of what made ArthroCare great, have disappeared. Smith and Nephew is a much larger company...

    Pros

Size. Autonomy, Novel Product, Mid Management

    Cons

Purchased by Smith & Nephew. They're too big, unsupportive and out of touch with the Austin team.

    Pros

Great peers and support from upper management. Lot of great minds working together. Lots of nearby places for lunch. Pretty good benefits.

    Cons

Something working too lean, too much work in some ocaccions, specially after Smith and Nephew acquisition. Traffic can be a pain if you travel from or to North.

    Advice to Management

    Check resources allocation.

I have been working at ArthroCare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Loads of experience. More good people than hard to work with types. Most people fun to be around.

    Cons

    No celebration after product launches.

    Advice to Management

Send your underlings to shows, product launches etc. after they worked so hard to get the product out. They should be able to attend the shows etc. as well and take in some of the celebration that only the management get to indulge in. Yes, everyone feels the same way.

I have been working at ArthroCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great technology that improves people's lives. It feels good working for a company whose products can improve outcomes in surgery. I've been able to move up and feel like I'm making a difference to the company.

    Cons

FDA issues (now behind us) and now being bought out by Smith & Nephew leaves everyone wondering what is going to happen.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with your employees. They are the backbone of the company.

I have been working at ArthroCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay for not difficult work. Mostly good people. Only some nepotism and cronyism. Management as a whole is probably a little clueless.

    Cons

Company is being bought out and most everyone in Austin will lose their jobs. It's a pity, because as jobs go, it wasn't that bad.

    Advice to Management

Most of my advice would fall on deaf ears - I'm not even sure anyone in management is aware of what Glassdoor does or is for.
