I have been working at Asahi Group Holdings full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A successful brand building business to learn from. Nice atmosphere, great brands and a very fair work life balance with full appreciation for new mothers and fathers needs

    Cons

Pay might be higher in less glamorous consumer goods roles elsewhere. They foster mediocrity at times which is detrimental to development

    Advice to Management

    Don't sugar coat mediocre performance

I worked at Asahi Group Holdings part-time

    Pros

Not long hours, flexibility, great people to work with, interesting brands and products

    Cons

Senior management does not make the right decisions - it is more about their individual targets and bonuses. Employees are always worried about job security as there have been so many redundancies. There is a lot of backstabbing and politics.

    Advice to Management

    Care about your people

I have been working at Asahi Group Holdings full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Development well supported if you seek opportunities and own your development

Have been with Asahi Beverages a number of years and haven't got bored as yet - role continues to evolve with new and exciting challenges I have enjoyed

I work with a great team of diverse back grounds, that take a positive and collaborative focus to their work

    Clear direction and accountability

    Cons

Remuneration is roughly middle of the range

There are some silos between teams but getting better.

    Limited opportunities outside of Australia

I have been working at Asahi Group Holdings full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Provide opportunity to share your ideas, flexible work, and positive culture.

    Cons

Slow moving and risk averse making decisions hard to attain. Not yet a mature global organisation, providing opportunity to make improvements and learn through experience, but lacking in opportunity to learn best practice in a mature (structured) organisation. And not many mentors available.

    Advice to Management

Provide more structure, and mentoring for new comers.

    Pros

Employees well supported during personal issues / illness. Relatively low pressure environment. Remuneration above average.

    Cons

Chaotic. Poorly run. Zero intellectual rigour to any activities. Political environment where incompetence / mediocrity is not only tolerated but embraced. Primary career growth strategy is to not create an issue about anything.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to understand your business and understand how it actually operates rather than assuming that out dated industrial cliches are reality. Some seniors managers are totally ill suited to their roles.

I have been working at Asahi Group Holdings full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some really passionate people work here, they love the products and the customers, and do the best they can despite the senior managers.

    Cons

The parent company - Asahi - doesn't know how to manage a group of disparate Australian companies.
They have bought some great local businesses, at over-inflated prices - and then leave it the local team to figure out what to do.
Senior management team are so busy trying to protect their own careers there is little trust amongst them, and you can see it impacting how everyone works - watch your back!

    Advice to Management

Stop putting up with politics, start demanding performance.

    Pros

Tokyo is a great city, clean and efficient transportation system, company is highly accessible from most places. Clean and pleasant working environment, next to the headquarter is the beer hall which employees frequent to have a nice mug of beer and to enjoy great view of downtown Tokyo. However, salary not high enough for me to afford living in downtown Tokyo, I have to commute to work from Yokohama.

    Cons

I'm a Chinese national, educated in England and speak fluent English, Chinese and Japanese. I worked in the finance department of the company. Despite my abilities, I was met with hostilities from some coworkers due to my foreigner status and being a female exec. In summary, a sexist and racist working environment, not much upward mobility for female employees like myself. However, these problems are pervasive in Japanese workplace culture and more of a societal problem, thus this company is not the only one with such problems.

    Advice to Management

More upward mobility for women employees and foreign talents.
