    Pros

all meals and snacks provided, leave at 2pm on fridays, all expenses paid annual trip for you and your family

    Cons

no HR person so it's awkward talking about money and personal things directly with hiring manager, long hours - longer than other firms

    Advice to Management

hire more staff to alleviate some of the pressure on existing employees. even just hiring one extra person can make a huge difference.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Ascend Capital full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are really great people who work there; unfortunately, most are not in managerial roles. There is a catered lunch every day and reduced hours on Fridays.

    Cons

Management can be difficult to get along with. Hours, as compared to other sectors in the Bay Area can be grueling.

    Advice to Management

Decentralize control over the company. Put into action feedback received from employees exit interviews. Allow safer channels to provide feedback.

    Pros

Everyone working there was very competent, though the top level people tended to keep to themselves, making it difficult to work with (and learn from) them. In an entry level position, I had plenty of room to work on additional pet projects, and that was encouraged, provided I met my assigned (heavy) workload. Nobody works 8 hour days, it's 10+, but it's a pretty good environment to be in, and was never that stressful.

    Cons

Despite being a small company, groups could be very segmented, and communication across the floor was minimal. As the company grew, the hiring standard was slacking. Turnover was very low, so advancement was difficult.

    Advice to Management

Encourage more collaboration among the different groups. Also, get the backoffice in place, which will free up time and stress for everyone.
