I have been working at Ascend Learning

    Pros

The work environment is more like a startup company. So you get more opportunities to get noticed and do work which matters. people are very nice, helping and easygoing. Overall the office culture is good. Pay and benefits are very competitive. A lot of smart people in the team and working with them is a pleasant and rewarding experience.

    Cons

I have been working in this company for a couple of months now, but seriously I do not have any point which I can think of right now.

    Advice to Management

I've not been that long in the company to provide advice to the management. We have a new CTO, so expecting some changes which should be beneficial for both company and the employees.

I worked at Ascend Learning full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people go the extra mile and recognize the difficulties they all must work with (or around).

    Cons

Outdated Legacy systems. Too much knowledge concentrated in too few key people. Over reliance on "off-shored" software development.

    Advice to Management

Recognize your rock-start and do what you have to do to keep them. They are the glue and wire holding your business together right now.

I have been working at Ascend Learning full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This company is becoming more profitable on paper to be sold to some poor schmuck.

    Cons

Management likes org charts more than work delivery. I have talked to several managers about the work product and get blank stares and conflicting accounts. Managers have to be told how to do their jobs like little kids learning to pick up after themselves. Competent employees still have to do the managers job most of the time, but sometimes managers do it and act as if they saved the world. Human resources is non-existent....

    Advice to Management

Advice for management is to quit and publicly apologize for wasting everyone's time.

I have been working at Ascend Learning full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Laid-back atmosphere, friendly co-workers, challenging/interesting work, flexibility

    Cons

Often forced to wear many hats (as with all small companies). A lot of work in the run-up to a new academic year.

    Advice to Management

Continue to grow the company and product while maintaining the culture

    I worked at Ascend Learning

    Pros

Small but profitable niche industry. Co-workers were always friendly and courteous. Laid-back office environment.

    Cons

Very reactive office culture. Small problems routinely went unaddressed, quickly growing in to large (unaddressed) problems. Passive-aggressive management style. Focus on quantity over quality. It's in Dexter, MI.

    Advice to Management

Listen to and trust your employees.

I have been working at Ascend Learning full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people are amazing, The benefits are on par with other companies in the industry. The management cares about the employees work life balance.

    Cons

The pay is below the industry average, for the quality of work that we do we should be compensated better.
