I have been working at Ascendant Technology full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great team. Excellent project. Plenty of H1-B employees.

    Cons

Project was deliberately underbid by sales team. Fixed bid projects put the project at risk. Consultants are experts in retail commerce one day, and experts in healthcare the next day. Tip: Your clients DO notice. :) Body shop mentality. Very few female employees, though Ascendant doesn't concern themselves with diversity. Aside from hiring H1-B employees, of course!

I have been working at Ascendant Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I have worked at Ascendant for some time. I have a good relationship with many people including upper management. Consulting is a lifestyle decision. Many people want to be a consultant without having to travel which generally isn't possible unless the client is flexible. Sometimes I will be away from home for 3 weeks straight, sometimes I will be at home for 3 months straight. Sometimes I will be at a client for 3 days, sometimes I will be at a client for a year. It all varies as is the nature of consulting work. If you work hard, contribute, and help other consultants become better you will be recognized and rewarded.

    Cons

Everything was mostly perfect until the Avnet acquisition. There is a lot more bureaucracy and annoying 'busy work' that you have to squeeze into your personal time. There have been a lot of organization changes and many great people have left.

"Ascendant Technology is one of the best IBM consultancies in the world."

I have been working at Ascendant Technology

    Pros

Ascendant is one of the top three IBM consultancies in the world. It lives by the work hard, play hard motto and not only supports but encourages a good work/family balance. It also does a great job of bringing in extremely talented consultants and giving them the tools to succeed. It's hard to find a consultancy that places such a high regard for doing right by the customer.

    Cons

The cons specific to Ascendant revolve around compensation and career path. The only other cons apply to all consultancies and that is the personal sacrifice and time away from home that consultants endure.

    Cons

In the middle of acqusition integration creating some uncertainty

I have been working at Ascendant Technology full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Collaborative culture... everyone is very supportive of each other Performance and rewards based on meritocracy, not years of service Highly specialized focus on delivering IBM solutions Flexible work/life balance arrangements (e.g., working from home)

    Cons

As part of Avnet, some additional bureaucracy has been introduced. Focusing on IBM solutions limits our ability to serve some customers.
