I have been working at Ascension St. Vincent’s full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Depending on the dept, overall leadership is great. My direct manager is amazing...not a micromanager, looks out for us and makes work fun.

    Cons

A lot of layoffs over the past few years, eliminating positions, forcing retirement, etc. It has gotten worse since SV’s joined Ascension Health. If you can outlast the layoffs, it is a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

Need more heads-up or transparency with layoffs coming. Need paid maternity leave.

I worked at Ascension St. Vincent’s full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Most company employees are very very pleasant. Free lunches. Nice and new locations.

    Cons

Urgent Care locations in the west of Jacksonville have a reputation of being very rude to patients. I noticed a pattern of hiring employees that are overqualified for certain positions and paying them very little. They manage to get around paying overtime by putting the overtime pay under a different department. New locations opening are mostly being managed by managers with ‘Primary Care' experience unfamiliar...

    Pros

If you are a new grad in any medical field/area, and you want an opportunity where you can hone your newly found skills...St. Vincents in the place to be. Sure you won't make a lot of money here but there are growth opportunities here. I've been with this company for almost a year and have worked in 2 different departments. Working with some of the most amazing professionals. Upper management in my department is awesome!...

    Advice to Management

Management is great but HR definitely needs to pay us better for the work we do.

I have been working at Ascension St. Vincent’s full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

    Money is good, self scheduling

    Cons

very little help at night, ICU's need to be consolidated. pt. acuity changes according to staffing, lots of pt. moved from ICU to PCU then ICU back to PCU. old equipment.

    Advice to Management

Need to use Southside ICU for more than "overflow", major renovations needed at Riverside. Need reliable "designated" nurse mentors, consistent training, and stop being " surprised" most new nurses these days are not going to stay at bedside. (Most are working to be NP's ) Better retention of dedicated bedside nurses would be nice. Need directors who are not ladder climbing or resume building. They need to do some work.

    I worked at Ascension St. Vincent’s full-time

    Pros

Great benefits. The stated mission. Some of the people I work with. Good hours in my particular case. I need to make this part 20 words so here’s another sentence.

    Cons

Your ideas are constantly ignored while the hospital is losing money. If I owned my department we would already be profitable. There is more bureaucracy than the government to get anything done and you get no support. We’ve had vendors threaten to stop providing products and services because they can’t get the bills paid. Restructuring is constant and you never know who is next. Then they say they need to get turnover...
