I worked at AseraCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice pay and great team of folks at the local level

    Cons

Corporate needs to re-evaluate their practices. They are only about the bottom-line and census. Unrealistic expectations for marketers and EDs. The job titles change every 6 months. Zero consistency.

I have been working at AseraCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has great values. They strive to be better than the others, and go above and beyond for each patient, each family and each employee. Management has always been receptive and has worked with me to figure out the best possible solution to any problems that arise. I would have to say that overall, AseraCare has treated me well, and I enjoy the people I work with.

    Cons

The only negative i can think of is that they need a better benefits package for their employees. Insurance premiums are reasonable, but the benefit package itself needs to be reevaluated.

I worked at AseraCare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This agency is where I found my passion for Hospice. Worked with some fantastic people and learned everything I could to assure I was providing the best possible team oriented, end of life care.

    Cons

Minimal support from Senior Management at the agency level. Felt the ultimate goal was census, (even when we knew patients were signed on too soon or needed to be discharged for extended prognosis), rather than having enough staff to provide the care needed in the field. PCCs were always willing to help when they were able with visits and on call. The work there became extremely overwhelming: case loads too high, (sometimes in the 20's with patients on daily visits, GIP or imminent), and hearing that we couldn't hire more staff until census grew another 10-20 or 30. Very unreal expectations placed upon the staff. Senior Management would blame Corporate management for the lack of staff. Corporate management was rarely seen at the office level. Lower level office staff were generally rude and cutting to field staff creating an extremely unpleasant 'office' atmosphere

    Advice to Management

    Pay attention to the cons!

I have been working at AseraCare (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Absolutely love the company I work with. They care about the patients as well as their employees from the local agency all the way up the ladder. How many large corporations out there give you full access to the president of the company to ask questions, have a sit down conversation. They are a very transparent company who want to keep everyone informed and involved. Compensation is just slightly lower than average but when you are able to work for a company who you trust and invests in you it makes up for the lower compensation.

    Cons

There are very few cons I can think of. Main one just comes with the territory of the job and thats on call. Hospice is a 24/7, 365 days a year service so on-call should be expected. While you are compensated for ON-CALL pay its still horrible when you have to get out in the middle of the night.

    Advice to Management

Consider adding a position of just on-call or weekend nurse to free your other staff up from on call duties.
