I worked at Ash Grove Cement full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people at the local facilities are really good people to work with.

    Cons

Ash Grove hired the CEO that drove Hostess, Inc. into bankrupcy. Makes you wonder what the long-term plans are for Ash Grove ??? The company is changing quickly and most of it is geared toward making it a less-human place to work.

    Corporate office is EXTREMELY disfunctional.

    Advice to Management

Get rid ot the CEO quickly before he chases off all your good talent.

I worked at Ash Grove Cement full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You would starve without the paycheck.

    Cons

For every two years worked, you will know somebody with a permanent disability or has been disfigured from a work injury. Shortcuts and nepotism rule the day while safety takes a back seat to production. Without the strong union presence and MSHA inspections, injuries and fatalities would be far greater.

    Advice to Management

Do not promote plant managers to company officers if they have had fatalities.

A lot of talented people working toward common goals. It's not a flashy company and most people are down to earth. Community involvement is supported through the charitable foundations, and by the employees who care about giving back.

    Cons

Relatively flat organization with limited options to move up. Things are moving in the right direction to make changes where it makes sense.
