I worked at Ashfield Healthcare Communications full-time

    Pros

Career opportunities to learn the medical communications field at all levels

    Cons

Cultural differences between UK and US and heavy favoritism for UK based agencies and employees; not enough Scientific support for US agencies which caused significant burn out

    Advice to Management

Put more resources into Scientific --

I have been working at Ashfield Healthcare Communications full-time for less than a year

    Pros

THey care about quality! Both for their customers AND their employees quality of life. They have very smart new business models that will be popular solutions for many pharma companies

    Cons

New business models mean lower rate of pay, but still in the market. They can be very fast moving, and tech laiden.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing.

I have been working at Ashfield Healthcare Communications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Ashfield is a great company to work for! There is a team culture where everyone is willing to help out and contribute to the greater good of the organization. In my whole career, I've never been part of such a tight knit team where folks care more about the team than the self!

    Cons

As new business is coming in so fast and furiously, it's becoming difficult to prioritize both existing and new customers. Good problem to have, but the leadership team must stay focused on alignment with resources mirrored up to the need.

    Advice to Management

Management at the executive level needs to learn who the best of the best are and start leaning on that group to take the organization to the next level. There are a ton of opportunities here for growth and management should continue developing the talent base!

I worked at Ashfield Healthcare Communications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Many of the reviews are lies, for anyone in their right mind would not give this company a great review. That is my honest opinion. However, Ashfield, does give benefits and fair amount of days off for an entry level Telemarketing Job. Hours can be flexible, and if you become trusted, they do allow people to work at home.

    Cons

Poor management, micro-management by lower and middle level management. Adults are not allowed to glance at cell phone during down time or have conversations in some programs or even do cross-words or read a book during down time while on the clock. Many managers will attempt to treat you like children, no matter what the quality of your output. I also had good to excellent reviews and I was given raises that were $0.50 or less. As a matter of fact, I got one of the better raises, when I got $0.57. Then next year was followed by $0.25. The better you get, the more they ask you to do, but you will not get a raise. YOu will just be doing more work. Upper Management makes a tremendous amount of money, yet they do not have enough money for employees. This is a job for women with kids who don't want to work anymore or retirees, or College Students with little to no experience.

    Advice to Management

Try to build a culture, and stop treating adult professional staff with more education than management like surplus capital. Give legitimate raises!

I worked at Ashfield Healthcare Communications full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Initially, there appeared to be a good team dynamic. Nice company parties. Office is decently quiet for writing.

    Cons

Little to no training for most roles. Retroactive micromanagement. Very hierarchical and title driven. Higher management is generally inaccessible.

    Advice to Management

Medcomms is stressful, but please don't promote a toxic workplace.

    Pros

Subsidiaries could use wider organization in the UK for broader depth of resources, which can be great in Med Comms. The most senior management seems reasonable, although poor managers with no idea how to get from A to B, except smile and hope they look good. Listen for substance when you hear them...its hard to come by.

    Cons

At least two managers, one on the medical side and one in accounts, solely manage by ego/arrogance and the need for control. Their inability to delegate anything but the most menial tasks was frightening in staff having made it up the food chain to supposedly VP positions. Except when they wanted to be on vacation... Loss of accounts and staff with a quietly revolving door seems to be writing on the wall that Senior management should be reading. When one VP has 4 people leave in 2 months who report to her...? Wha? Shouldn't you pay attention?

    Advice to Management

Really, lift the rug and take a look at whats under there. Stop ignoring the signs and signals. Have some teeth and manage people like they matter, not like they are expendable. Care about job development (yes, that means you give people responsibility, then let them do it), and people development. Don't bow to one or two egos just cuz your scared of them...
